Hi Roy, I think you will see several recommendations for Edelbrock and Weiand manifolds. What is your maximum rpm likely to be? Even the old F4B is still said to be a relatively good design with up to 5500 maximum range. You can supposedly get a bit more by cutting a 1/2 inch or so slot in the chamber divider right below the carb. If an originality look (at least period correct..) is meaningful to you, an F4B does have that advantage. BTW, the Edelbrock airgap RPM comes with that slot already cast in and can be considered a successor to the F4B and later RPM models.
When researching what to use on my 347 project, currently on hold, I decided to go with a Weiand 8020. It is advertised as being good from idle to 6000 RPM and was recommended by an engine builder type I consulted. I also like it because it has the rear water passage crossover passage the F4B does not have. (Never had explained to me why the F4B does not have one.) Anyway, I have seen other guys using the Weiand 8020 on their cars with good results and no bonnet clearance problems. BTW, it is also has the small block Ford family (including the 302) listed as its application. Hope some of that helps.
Cheers, Gene

Roy,

This topic has been debated quite a lot over the years.

Here on Tigers East/ Alpines East:

The Weiand Stealth (8020) is a high rise dual-plane manifold in contrast to its brother, the low rise dual-plane Street Warrior (8124).
Note that there is also a difference in their operating range.

Hi Roy,

I have heard good things about the Edelbrock RPM air gap manifolds, but these may need machining for clearance. If it is for a stock two barrel replacement, either the Edelbrock Performer or the Weiand Action plus manifolds are very good and both are low-rise manifolds (no clearance issues).

Regards, Robin.

The Edelbrock Air-Gap 302 (#7521) manifold mentioned by Robin has similar A and B heights to the Stealth (8020).

The Weiand Street Warrior (8124) is lower.

Note that the Weiand Action-Plus name has been dropped and replaced by Street Warrior. The product is exactly the same.

Subject to bonnet clearance, it is also a good idea to fit a phenolic spacer between the intake manifold and carb to help reduce fuel percolation.

This is a Canton 1/2 inch spacer:

Very good advice, i was having issues in summer when caught in traffic with the car starting to idle rough and stumbling as i moved off.. spacer in, problem solved. It also helps with retsrats when the car has been running recently.
