Mal,
When you bought the car i think you assumed it was more a rolling restoration at the time.. and it got a little (lot) more involved. Given what you have found on the rear and the rust found inside the front valence area.. had you thought of having the car dipped at some point before you started on the rear? I know that you have finshed the front, but given the hidden rust you are finding are you concerened there may be rot in other concealed areas?

My god, that certainly is a set back, but I'm sure you are glad that you found it now. On a positive note, at least you will have basically a new Tiger once finished. Were there any tell tail signs before the restoration started?Mal wrote:How is all the body work progressing?
Robin. I thought we were on the home straight. There were some patches on the rear chassis rails. It was well covered with underseal. Now we have to replace the rear chassis rails. To do that the boot floor and rear seat floor has been cut out. I have had them at home to remove all the old underseal.
Regards, Robin.

You could see faults in the panels, some rust coming through. It had all been done before. Most of it badly. They did not cut the rust out before, just patched over it. There were even patches on top of patches. My god, that certainly is a set back, but I'm sure you are glad that you found it now. The car still did pass it's inspection when I went to register it.It had to have some chassis repair work to pass. They never picked up on this.
I am glad they don't salt the roads here.

Ah Mal, I'm really sorry to see that pic of the rail.
The dash looks great though.
If you plan on cavity waxing it afterwards, can I recommend this stuff.

I'm not sure if you can get it over there, but it's fantastic stuff.
It stinks and looks like something you find in the bottom of a pigsty, but is supposed to be the best.
Very easy to use too.
Can I just say that your house's local looks very nice.
