MKll Egg Crate Grill
MKll Egg Crate Grill
I have just purchased a MK1 restoration project and in the collection of bits was a MKll grill is there anyway of telling if genuine?? The car came off the road in 1978 and has sat ever since so if repro would have to have been manufactured before that. Were there any produced before that time??
Does anyone have a close picture of a genuine one so I can cross examine??
Thanks Richard

That must have been a very pleasant surprise.
I don't know for sure but I can't see there being a damand for repro that soon after the production ended.
Either way, it must be worth a considerable sum.
There is a grille top chrome trim from a mkII on US E-bay at the moment and it is going for crazy money.

That is not crazy, it's just normal for MkII items. It would be nice to find some MkII items in your pile of bits though.

Re: MKll Egg Crate Grill
Hi Richard,
I recently come across a genuine MK2 eggcrate grill, and the seller was a restorer of Tigers in the 80's. On one MK2 Tiger he was restoring, he took the genuine grill off (and the one I have now) in favour of "repro" he had made and I believe there was a batch done which are very close in quality terms to the originals, but on close inspection you can tell the difference.
Doubt the "repro" batch was done before 1978 so I'd imagine you have an orginal there. Bring it along to spares day if you want to be sure, there will be plenty of "specialists" there who will be able to tell you for sure
Or if you want me to load any close-up pics on the thread here then let me know

It may be normal, but that doesn't mean it's not crazy.gtsmrt wrote:Hi Martin,martin172 wrote:That must have been a very pleasant surprise.![]()

If I owned a MK2, I'd be tempted to drive it in revese everywhere lol.
A stray stone from a lorry wheel could cost you an arm and a leg.
What is the going rate for pukka MK2 parts then?
Grille, headlight surrounds etc?
