New member - Hello!

I'm not sure which is the correct forum for introductions; therefore, if I have chosen the incorrect one, please move this topic (or ban me forever!

)

My name is Simon and I live in Surrey. I have owned classic cars previously - the most interesting one being a 1966 big block, 7 litre, Corvette Roadster - and am now looking to buy a Tiger. The plan is to use the car as much as possible and thus a good, reliable car, is my top priority. I know we're talking about a 40-year old car but I'd rather not get halfway to my destination and walk the rest of the way on each and every trip.

While it doesn't need to be mint, I know if it isn't tidy I'll end up spending money to make it so; therefore, I'd rather start with a nice one.

I look forward to joining the club once I've become an owner.

I'll stop there before I bore you all to tears!

Hello Bigee!

Saw that, you were looking for info on the Gordin Banks (sp?) car.

That looks like a nice car for the price - and no doubt with a little work, it would be very nice. I remember reading the buyers guide in Classic & Sports car magazine and I don't remember them being very negative about it.

Wish i could see the feature...can't seem to download it from the web.....have spoken to vendor and looked at info from ad,but still seems to be some 'holes' to fill in..like you,my priority is to get a sound/sorted car i can use,dont mind a bit of tinkering

Welcome Simon and bigee12345, I'm afraid we're a bit backward in coming forward on this forum, there's only about 10 of us who ever post anything, and 3 of those are in the Antipodes!

Plenty of club members will be delighted to help you in your search for a good useable car, but most seem to prefer phone or email discussions rather than in public. If you're in Surrey, there's a club member behind almost every hedgerow.

I assume you've looked at the Classifieds on this website; there are several others cars in the club which might be available but are not listed.

Hello to the newbies from one of the "antidopers"

A few things i guess as advice:

If you dont know tigers get a knowledgeable member to look the car over to ensure that it is what its advertised as. Many cars have been re-bodied using alpine shells before the value of the cars made proper reapirs viable.

Decide what specification you want, a stock car, lightly modified or tyre smoker.

Apart from the obvious checks for rust in the usual spots, spring hangers, X frame etc.. check that the front cross member is not sagging or cracked, the panhard rod moutings also fracture.

Finally parts such as the original aircleaners, shifters, header tanks and wooden steering wheels can be costly to replace, if they are important to you make sure they are there.

Hello welcome AM94 and Bigee12345

I am a fairly new owner of a Tiger about 18 months or so, I bought mine through the owners club and feel this is the way to go, I was so nearly caught out buying an Alger (v8 powered Alpine). There is absolutley nothing wrong with owning an Alger (there are some stunning examples in the club) as long as it is made public knoledge that the car is not a real Tiger and is reflected in the price.

Keep up the posts and maybe the forum will change from 1 or 2 replies and 250 views

Good luck with your search AM94 & Bigee12345. I am a newbie to Tigers and Ford running gear as well. Learning as I go. There is some guys here who are willing to pass on there knowledge which makes life easier.
