That measurement on mine is 8 3/10".
Could do with another owner to corroborate this though, just to be sure.
ETA. I can see the dolly marks on the pic I think.
The question is, who did it and why.
Do you know how the fire occurred?
I wonder if it did a bit of racing of some sort.

It's time to paint the block, not sure to go black or the old Ford dark blue.
The car's going to be painted in volvo orinoco paint 479, so not sure if it will all be a bit too blue.

You do seem to have the luxury of choice.
For your car it should be black but 289s are generally blue.
You could opt for something down the middle like Ford Blue which is quite dark or Chevy orange or turquoise and rattle a few cages.

I was thinking of the Ford Blue which is the original colour, then i can say to the Tiger police it's really a 260 honest...

Mal you must have used the satin black then rather than the standard matt to get the capacity increase, think i'll go for 2 coats of gloss so that makes it 5.7litres in my books.

Very nice. Looks like some serious ponies going on here.
Shame you are going to have to cover up all that shiny aluminum with black paint.

What a fantastic thread - thanks for taking the time to post your updates Brad.
I'll be fascinated to hear how much power & torque your engine makes as I'm planning on doing very similar with my 289 in the next year or two.
What inlet manifold have you fitted, what air filter are you planning on using and will you keep the standard bonnet or fit a LAT one? I'm still trying to work out what manifold/carb/air filter combo will fit under a standard smooth bonnet.

Tim,
it's similar to an 'air gap' manifold, it's going to have a Holly 600 & a 'powered by Ford' ali K&N filter.
