30th Monterey Historics - California, USA

Pictorial report of 5 Tigers & the many West Coast Tiger folk met there

Met John & Angela Dandy at their motorhome beside the circuit [view through windscreen above]. STOC squad soon swelled by the arrival of No 9 support team - three men dressed in green! Gordon England, son Luke and friend Grahame.Spent the next four days taking in the best US classic car racing and nearby concours shows. Angela managed to put us all up and ran a great kitchen & bar! Nice to see and meet large contingent of STOA & CAT members. And of course there were five competition Tigers to take a close butchers at - one being the Fraser/Unett Modsports 'Monster' racing in anger again after 30 years. Peter Procter took the wheel of Darrell & Sharon Mountjoy's LM Coupe, Dan Walters took on the Monster, Steve Alcala drove Dan Walters Tiger, Tom Sakai drove his Tiger (to the best Tiger result) and Dave McDermott drove his beautifully prepared Targa Florio race car. Combined value of cars on display at circuit and concours shows probably exceeded Luxembourg's GDP but these concours events are peerless. Great hospitality from Tiger community, impressive show by the Tigers, fabulous circuit. GV

Julian Balme - literary racing ace and STOC member gets to run his Ford Falcon; something looked forward to for several years. Don't miss his piece in "Classic & Sports Car" - November issue (out 2nd Oct) Simon Taylor also has half dozen pages on his drive and Carmel concours shows.
