Quick drive down the road

Post by Mal » Sun May 05, 2013 5:55 am

At first I thought the engine was a bit flat and perhaps the Ford GT roller cam was not working with the rest of the engine combo. Considering I was using what I got with the used short block I was never sure if it was going to work well.

Then I discovered I only had about 1/3 throttle. Now :D

I don't know what compression the cam was designed for but I am running 10.1 : 1 with iron heads. I new I could be pushing my luck with detonation, but I can't get the engine to rattle at all even from accelerating from low rev's in third gear.

Anyway short video of the car on the road. Sorry about the dirty windscreen.

In for a Penny

Mal,
what iron cyl heads are you running, and how did you determine the theoretical comp ratio, did you measure the cyl head comp space and piston height in the block.
Try driving in top gear and a gentle throttle opening from low rpm to check for detonation"pinking".
Do you use high octane fuel or ordinary?

Heads are GT40P heads. I think the P stands for PITA as headers have to be custom made and spark plug angles are different, but they are supposed to be the best flowing head Ford made for passenger vehicles. Plus I think the spark plug angle makes it easier to get to the plugs. All can be removed from under the bonnet.

Compression was worked out by the engine builder that replaced the valve seats and assembled the heads and finished off the engine.

In have not tried accelerating from very low revs in top gear yet but have in 3rd.
I will try advancing the timing a little and see if likes it or not

I am using BP's ultimate 98 octane fuel.

Cheers Mal

Mal - the only thing missing was a pan over to the driver. I'm guessing the grin was ear to ear!

Dash has come up a treat and the car sounded good and solid - seemed to pull really strongly as well. What fantastic roads you have.

More vids please...

Cheers, Tom

You could have mowed the lawn Mal.

I wish I'd bought shares in Autoglym when I heard the Book Of Graham was going to be made.

Car looks great mate. The ride height is perfect.

I have to compliment you again on such a long and resourceful struggle. Even though we have decades into the game, I learned from watching your approach to things. Thx, randy

Hi Mal
Car looks great. From the first pic's you posted, I did not expect you to end up with such a nice car. So well done. You will have to find an other project now. As I have enjoyed following the progress, from afar.
One last thing[and you don't have to answer]
How many penny's ?

Happy Tigering Harry

Big day

Post by Mal » Sat Jun 29, 2013 2:05 am

I had a couple of small jobs to do on the Tiger this morning. Then looked at it and realised it was warrant of fitness time. So I took it into the testing station

Nice, time to use it now. How often is the test yearly / bi-annual?
