Monte Carlo Rally - The Winter Challenge 2011

Post by Tomaselli » Sun Nov 20, 2011 10:09 pm

By chance noticed this year's start of the "18th Winter Challenge" Monte Carlo Rally was from either the historical and beautiful old Roman Town of Chester, England or a start from Noordwijk in Holland for the European participants. As Chester is relatively local it was rude not to grab my camera, despite a Sunday 8am start :shock:

Met up with John Abel driving his well known Tiger, supported by navigator Mike Hope. Coincidentally, Jayne and Paul Wignall who have scored many trophies rallying their Tiger were out on this occasion in their individual Alfa Romeos.

For those that do not know, the Monte Carlo event is run very much in mind with the spirit of the original and is a now a popular and huge success.

For anybody interested, details of the event can be found at the following link;

Would be nice to see the participants finishing in Monte Carlo, and seeing what a Tiger does best......win at Rallying :mrgreen:

John Abel and all the other Chester starters made it as far as Market Harborough, although they were a bit mud splattered by then! The event finishes in Monte Carlo on Thursday.

Tony,

As always thanks for the pics, intersting mods on the rally tiger, the combined bonnet scoop/vent is interesting.. i assume the filter has a vertical draw for air as well as sides.. and then the hot air continues and gets sucked out the low pressure zone near the screen?

Also the works style front vents look the part.. not sure id be risking the MKII rims on the rally car.. even the factory cars had them secured with a push stud and teather!

At the end of leg 2 in Aix-les-Bains John and Mike are 10th in the post 1962 category. Paul Wignall is leading the event and Jayne Wignall is 3rd.
