Always thought RHD ones are pretty scarce. Would say it depends whether you can find another one for less

Yes, I suppose the majority of Tigers went to the States or other foreign countries and left hand drive, hope mine is in good condition?

Only 812 Tigers were built for the UK!
The USA took 5109 of them while Canada imported 572 TIgers. Europe (exlusive the UK) imported 356 Tigers and the rest of the world imported 218 TIgers. In this last 218 Tiger are included some RHD examples.
It is safe to asume that max about 900 RHD Tigers are produced so it is not strange the RHD steering systems are rather rare and as a result of that the prices of this type of steering are high.

Peter

Peter

Thanks for the info.

I believe the PO of my car did strip down, check and re-assemble the Rack on my car, I find the steering quite heavy and a bit notchy :(

Are the original Racks supposed to be maintenance free, I can't see any grease nipple like on some contemporary 60's cars?

My previous Triumphs had Grease nipples for routine lubrication/maintenance but I cannot see one on my Tiger Rack?

No grease nipples on the Tiger rack. It's filled with a heavy oil instead...

Does that mean it's supposed to be Maintenance free or can you top up the Oil?

Presumably by Heavy oil you mean Gearbox/Diff oil, EP80/90?

Yes that's what I use at least. The racks are fundamentally maintenance free but they do loose oil especially when the rubber gaitors split. New gaitors and good fill of heavy oil - bingo...

But beware not to overfill otherwise the oil may quench out when steering arm is fully retracted on one side...

From memory it only holds about 1/2 pint, check in the workshop manual.its a lot easier when it’s off car and you know the rack is empty,it’s still a bit of a fiddle getting 1/2 pint into it.if I was adding oil to it on car I would loosen small end of gaiter and use an oil can.if you had it off car and had it empty you could use a special grease,I think millers sell it.

There should be a few RHD racks available. Quite a few members have upgraded to MG racks, [with or without power steering option] I sold my rack for £300 needing overhaul. Electric power steering makes a great difference to ease of driving a Tiger.
