It's the spring from inside the door lock.
I wondered why one of my locks didn't work properly.
Looks like the lock has been forced at some point.
Knackered spring on left, working on right.
The lugs have been torn off so the spring is now too short.
I don't really want to buy a whole door handle for just the spring if I can possibly avoid it.
I've tried making one but in real life it is a lot harder than in the World of Youtube.
