USA TIGER TOUR - Tiger 50 Finale Tour

Post by pushrod » Wed Nov 26, 2014 10:58 pm

Following the success of the Monte tour plans are afoot to take a group of Tigers out to California as a Tiger 50 finale to commemorate the end of Tiger production in June 2017.

The idea is to ship cars from the UK/Europe/Australia & New Zealand etc. to Los Angeles.

We would combine our visit to link up with the Tigers United event held that time of year.

Our route will take in as many iconic locations as possible with an estimated mileage of 1750 in 14 days. Ideally keeping daily distances to manageable amounts and having 2 day stopovers here and there to relax and enjoy a few locations.

Estimated costs at current prices:
Shipping (4 cars per container) £2000 UK - LA round trip.
Insurance £1000 (transit and US).
Hotels and meals £220/ day - £2800
Flights - £1500
Fuel @ £2.50/Imp gal - £250

Approximate total £7500

If you're interested please email me at loulusardi@btinternet.com and let me know what places you'd like to visit so that we can start to work out a route, if enough people are keen to go.

Expressions of interest by Dec 31st please.

Lou.

Pending a 2014 lottery win, I'm in! :D

I wouldn't fancy taking a Tiger through Death Valley though and the steering may not cope with Lombard Street.

Cruising the Vegas strip would be pretty cool.

Pike Peak is over 1000 miles from LA. Vegas however is feasible.

Cobra Experience Museum

Post by pushrod » Thu Jan 15, 2015 3:23 pm

The recently opened Cobra Experience Museum in the San Francisco Bay area could be worth visiting in California.

Mostly Cobra's with a few Mustangs. They need a Tiger to make it complete.

Don't forget if your interested in the proposed tour in 2017 PM me. No commitment needed just yet, we just need an idea of who might want to go to see if it's viable.

This is the list of names who have expressed an interest in the California Tour in 2017.

Lou Lusardi & Val Jones
Fred & Carol Daynes
Ross & Jan Baillie (AUS)
Bruce & Julie Reid (NZ)
Graham Vickery
John Day
David & Sally May (AUS)
Barbara & Ian
Malcolm & Jackie
Tristan
Angela Dandy
Dave Puzey
Mike Rackham
Liz Mountain & Pete Towns
Richard & Rosemary Danby
Don & Rachel Poar
Charles Seaberg (AUS)

I met up with Buck Trippel from the California Tiger Club when he was over recently. We chatted for a while about the tour and Buck suggested we booked accommodation as soon as we were able. For example, if we wanted to visit Yosemite we would need to book this in a few months time, incidentally the same company that has the franchise for Yosemite also owns the Queen Mary in Long Beach, a possible combination eh.
Also buck suggested that we visited as early as possible in June as the schools break for summer mid month, so ideally we would start our tour from LA around the 16th June 2017, flying out a few days beforehand.

I'll get a basic booking form sent out towards the end of April.

If anyone fancies a bit of adventure, this is where we stayed in Yosemite.
Watch out for the bears though.

Monterey - Whale watching

Post by pushrod » Mon Aug 24, 2015 12:18 pm

If you tune into "Big Blue Live" on BBC TV this week you'll get to see the fantastic marine life in Monterey Bay, California.

We plan to stay at Monterey on the 2017 Tiger California Tour. Weather permitting we could join a morning Whale watching tour prior to driving up to San Francisco

A typical tour company - http://www.montereybaywhalewatch.com/

Further details on the Cal Tour coming very soon. Plans are to release the brochure in the next month and start taking bookings.

PM me for more details.

There's a good possibility that the venue of the 2017 Tigers United event will be at the old McClennan Air Force Base just outside Sacramento.

So we should now be able to get a reasonably accurate route for the tour sorted out.

The only issue lies with sorting out the best method of shipping the Tigers over to California. The most cost effective so far is using a RoRo vessel into port Hueneme (Santa Barbera) and then container back to the UK from Long Beach. Watch this space.

As of 30th January we have six UK cars booked to go to California. Three red ones, two white and one green!

The new website, which is due to go live early in February will have a section devoted to the California Tour.

Here's a link to a video shot by Bengt Ericsson of his Tiger driving from Las Vegas to the Furnace Creek Resort in the middle of Death Valley. 38 deg C at 10.15 in the morning, his Tiger seemed to cope very well.
