Cheap long extension bar/Cure for jammed boot lid
Cheap long extension bar/Cure for jammed boot lid
Need a very long extension (1 metre plus) for your 3/8 inch square drive socket set at a cheap price? Don't waste money on two 600mm extensions (about £25). Just find a suitable length of scrap 1/2 square steel bar. Fit a 1/2 inch to 3/8 inch reducer, plus some gaffer/duct tape to sure that the reducer is fixed firmly to the bar. Fit the appropriate size 3/8 inch drive socket for your job and away you go.
This was my cheap “get out of jail” card when my boot lid jammed for no apparent reason. From behind the driver's seat (about 1 metre away) I was able to loosen the 4 off 7/16 inch AF bolts which secured the boot lid's striker plate.
Alternatively, use a very small child who has had comprehensive training on using a socket set and is familiar with the mechanical layout of a Sunbeam Tiger.

Perhaps someone should make a remote boot release kit.

I thin you'll find they are talking about the boot (trunk) not the bonnet (hood) which might be the cable issue you are reffering to when they snap on the MKIA/II Tigers and SV alpines.. not a fun job if it happens.

Are you referring to the soft-top cover panel on the Mk 1's? If so, they also have an issue if the cable breaks to release the cover panel. So issues with either onemichael-king wrote:I guess this is where owning a MKI is better thana MKIA/MKII.. with a MKI you can take the rear hood panel off and get in there.. not possible with a MKIA/II.
funny though.. most people have the reverse issue.. the boo popping open on them.
