Hi Mal,

At the time I got them I didn't know you could still get offset ones.

You did better than me at finding a link.
I looked myself and used a link that Graham sent me too but I couldn't find anything about 7 leaves.
I obviously didn't look very well.

The springs do look like the originals.
They have E4057 1229931LH JWS and E4057 122993ORH JWS stamped into them if that means anything to anyone.

I can only assume then that someone fitted an extra leaf to stiffen them up, but unlike the ones the guy on SAOCA mentions, these are all the same thickness profile etc. They look totally original.
Very mysterious.

Martin. I can't make out all the stampings on mine,but they look similar.
E24 J?S 1208585A on one. The other spring the numbers are not legible.

Yeah.
I, for some reason or other, decided I wanted a garden pond.
I dug a big hole, built a substantial retaining wall, changed my mind and am filling it in again lol.
The soil in our garden is awful too. Full of stones and clay.

In the end I made the rubber straps for my springs myself. PITA it is too.
If anyone finds themselves in the same situation, it looks like these are the guys who sell the repro ones.

Does anyone know what the thread type and size is of the special bolt in the middle of the spring leaves that holds the leaves together and of the front and rear bolts that hold the spring to the car body?

I've looked in the part catalogue but it doesn't say.

The front and rear bush eye bolts are 7/16 UNF. I replaced mine with new grade 8 bolts. The centre spring bolt, I don't know. Are they shot ?. You may need to ask a spring maker for those.

Thanks for that Mal.

Both of the centre bolts are ok but one of the nuts is shot and need a new one.

I never got a far as buying fish but I think the local cats are devastated.
They were looking forward to a new restaurant opening.

Next job, fitting the shocks.
Being me, when I took them off, I didn't make a note of what went where so this is what I've got.
Any ideas? I'm a bit stuck with the 3rd washer thingy.

Also, now the car is on the ground, I can now fully tighten the u-bolt nuts and the nuts and bolts at the end of the leaf springs.

The U-bolts are easy, they have a torque value in the manual, but what's the score with the bolts at the ends?
Are they lightly tightened up so as not to pinch on the metalastic bushes, or given a good armful?

Just to confuse you, my shockers have 4 steel washers but the Workshop Manual shows only 3.

Your two identical ones are referred to as washers and the odd one is called a spacer.

Put a steel washer on the shocker's rod first (obviously dish uppermost), followed by a rubber bush with its “sticking-out” bit uppermost.

(Optional Bit) If you happen to have another steel washer like me, then that goes on now, dish down.

Insert rod into top mounting hole and secure at bottom mount, but do not tighten.

The spacer goes on next, dish uppermost, followed by the rubber bush with “sticking- out” bit pointing down. Finally fit the steel washer, dish downwards, followed by the two nuts.
As you say, once the car is on the ground, torque bolts and nuts to spec.
I seem to recollect giving the eye bolts a good tweak.

There must be another one somewhere so let turning the place upside down commence. :lol:

I have managed to find some steel washers.
There were only 3 washers per side on my old rear shockers, as per the manual.

The old ones are generally heavier gauge than the new ones, so if you would like me to mail all 6, drop me a pm with your name and address.
