Paint Probs

This is probably more of a question for white Tiger owners, but I was hoping someone could help me.

I need some paint for my car. It is a '65 car in white (92)
I believe it is arctic white.
I went to a local paint dealer yesterday to get an aerosol, and all they could find was Talbot white from 1975 onwards, and assured me that that would be it. It made sanse because of the Sunbeam / Talbot link.

As you may have guessed, it doesn't match. It is far too white if you know what I mean. The paint on the car is a creamier white.
The car has been resprayed at some point in it's life and I don't know whether it was sprayed using the correct white or not.

Have any other white Tiger owners had this problem?
What colour have you used on your cars?
Would it be best to take a bin off and get it scanned?

Thanks, Martin.

Hi Martin,

As you suggested, it would be much better to remove something painted in the same colour and have it colour matched. Is the paint for touch up's? It is also best to test the paint on a hidden area to see if it matches.

Regards, Robin.

Hi Robin,
Yes, it's for touching up a few areas here and there.

I'm probably quite mad but I've left one of the bins with them to get a colour match for me.

Only time will tell.

Cheers, Martin.

Hi Martin,

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm not sure what you mean by 'bins'. Please let me know.

Thanks, Robin.

Hi Robin.
I meant the MK1 steel covers for the soft top when it's down.
I left one of the smaller side ones with them.

Cheers mate.

Problem solved (hopefully).

The local paint place have mixed me up a special blend that matches.
Apparently, they are not big fans of scanning paint as they reckon it isn't precise enough for them, so some poor sod sat and created a recipe for me.
Phew!

While I'm here, does anyone know what these holes on the bin covers are for? Is there supposed to be something in them?

Hi Martin,

Good to hear that you may have a match (as long as the guys eye sight is ok). In regards to your soft top panel, the workshop manual shows a finisher but I am not 100% sure if it goes over the holes. That part when closed up, is under the main panel anyway. You could also use a bit of rubber to stop it rubbing together..

Regards, Robin.

Hi Robin, yeah, I think I'll pop a bit of rubber or vinyl on there and see how it looks.

Cheers mate.
