Another Brief update.

I've now got my Oilite bushes, they are very slightly larger in overall diameter at 7/16" against the 3/8" diameter of the ones in the Kit from the USA.

I don't believe this extra 1/16" (1.5mm) approx will be that critical.

So I will drop then off at my Engineer mates tonight.

Hopefully he can get the relevant machining/reaming/welding repairs carried out soon and I can collect, get them re-painted and back on the car.

Springs not far away and I don't want to be driving about with no Doors on the car!!

I've now got the Refurbished Hinges back off my Engineer mate Bernard, he's repaired the weld on the Passenger side top hinge and fitted the new Oilite bushes, no slop or play now. :)

He's advised I don't get them sand blasted as the media may get into the bushing, not good.

I was hoping to get them primed and repainted at a local Powder coating/Stove Enamel specialist but the guy who runs this business Pete, as advised against this as the the Stove enameling process gets up to 170 degrees Centigrade and will damage the oilite bushes!

So I either prime and paint them myself using Rattle cans or see if a Car Body shop will prime and paint them in 2 Pack?

Looking good, make sure you etch prime if painting yourself.

Brad

I am having ago myself, bought a rattle can of Etch Primer yesterday suitable for the bare steel and also some compatible Gloss white from a local Trade paint supplier.

I'll hopefully get it primed and painted this weekend and then will have to get my mate to assist putting the doors back on.

It's turned into to a bit of an epic these Hinge Pins, started the job back in January!

My Engineer mate Bernard knurled the new pins on the top Hinges as per the originals, the bottom ones are a tight interference fit as per the originals (No Knurling on the original bottom pins on my car?), so I'm hoping they won't fall out!

I've etch primed them and also gave them a couple of coats of Gloss White too, including the new screw heads, they look OK.

I just need to arrange for some help again with my mate John, which is easier said than done, he seems very busy at the Mo?

More photos to follow soon (Hopefully) when the door are back on the car

If they are knurled at the top like the originals they won't move out. Are you sure the hinge screws are originals ? Think they should all have peaked ends to ease mounting to the threaded counter plates ...

Yes you are correct, after a second look at the pins we removed they are all a knurled finish at the top, so presumably the originals (As Photo).

I've double checked the new bottom pins and Bernard's machined the knurled finish on these too, so they won't move or drop out over time.

I've refitted the hinges to the doors last night and given them a good coating of Dynax Rustproofing fluid to the captive plates and screws and also oiled the pins & brass washers, I notice that the lower hinges have a very small open section for you to oil the pins, so I've put oil into those holes too.

I already had 1/8" holes drilled in the hinge sections that mount to the 'A' Posts top and bottom, so hopefully it won't be a major job getting the door at the correct height and also the gaps correct, but we shall see?!! :?

I've been in touch with my good friend John and he's provisionally arranged to help me fit the doors Saturday.

Hopefully they will both be back on the car in a couple of hours, but you never know with these things! :?:

We had a successful Saturday Morning with the door replacement, started at 9 am and all doors fitted by lunchtime :D

However it wasn't all smooth running, as we managed to chip the paint slightly at the front bottom corners and also at the top front on the curved section :(

The doors are aligned as well as previously and shut far easier too.

We had to space out slightly the bottom Passenger door hinge to raise the door at the rear to get the Stainless side strips to line up.

Also the The Drivers door is slightly twisted and sticks out from the Sill line at the rear, but this was always the case and is something I will have to live with for now till I have the whole car resprayed and hopefully the body-shop can sort it?

All in all a successful days work, as I finished off by waxoyling the insides of the 'A' posts and Hinge plates and then refitted the interior trim panels.
