Water hose from radiator to waterpump

Hi all,

I have discovered that the water hose from the radiator to the waterpump (bottom hose radiator) from my LHD Tiger is collapsing when the engine is hot and the revs are up. I also know that this is a common problem which is also known to Mustang owners.
My question is: are there better hoses which are for insance wire reinforced and if so where can I buy them? I know that silicone hoses are better and stronger than standard ones but I can't find hoses with the right shape. There is not only a 90 degrees bend in this hose but also a little bend near the waterpump and the standard slicone hoses I know of don't have this little bend.

Hi Peter,you can fit a light spring inside the hose to stop it collapsing,or make a coiled wire support to do the job.

I would have thought that if you bought a new hose it would have the spring already there. I would contact one of the sunbeam suppliers and ask them.

Thanks Mal, I will do that. But the hose which is installed on my Tiger doesn't have that spring. My hose is installed in 1992 when my Tiger was restored in England. The writing on the hose is as follows:

5D07 EBP EC/R 80MH75 Made in USA

Is somebody on this forum familiar with this hose?

I had exactly the same problem with my Tiger, manifesting itself as a slow increase in temperature on the motorway (40 miles before the engine started to get too hot). Simply replacing the hose with a silicone one solved the problem- no spring required. I think that the Mustang is more prone to this collapse, and the spring required, because the hose is much longer in that application.

Thank you very much voor your response. As you can read in my first post I had considered also the option of a silicone hose, but the trouble is that I only found standard silicon hoses which don't have the right shape.
So please can you inform me about the data of the silicon hose you have installed? Which company does supply them and what is the order code for this specific hose?

Well it seems that I am not Lucky with getting the information about the silicone waterhose but perhaps somebody is able to inform me about the right size and sort of thread of the drain tap of the radiator of my 1964 MK 1 Tiger. The drain tap is leaking and I have no idea which supplier could deliver a new one. Any idea is apreciated very much!

Hi bigbob,

I guess you don't have the answers on my questions?
I am not a member of Facebook and I will keep it that way. Besides the information disappears after some time and will be to no benefit of other Tiger owners. So in my opinion Facebook isn't something good for the Tiger community.
Well if nobody can help me I have to find another solution which is too bad....

I'm not knowledgeable enough to help with your problems and as said, the forum is very quiet these days.

Much livelier and prevalently frequented by LHD owners.

Thanks for your reply and thanks for your suggestion, so I will do as you advise and contact the forum of CAT. Why did I not think of that before, especcially being a member of CAT for many years!
Regarding the drain tap for the radiator surely this tap is the same for both LHD and RHD Tigers?

Yes, I think you're right. I would think that the drain taps are the same for LHD and RHD tigers.

I am in the same situation as you regarding the drain tap.

Mine is something a previous owner has cobbled together. It works, but isn't pretty so I would like a replacement too.

I have looked in the past and haven't been able to find one.

Hopefully you will have better luck in your search than me.
