Holly or Edelbrock Carburettor

Post by Tigerfan » Thu Mar 05, 2015 4:48 pm

Hi Guys,
Following on from my previous post re: Holly 4160. it now seems that a previous owner fitted a Holly 390 cfm probably from a Rover V8. The carb has not been re jetted so probably not suitable. Thinking about replacing with a Edelbrock 500 cfm or Holly 570 cfm.
Appreciate any comments and advice on where to buy ready for use on a 260 engine.
Thanks Rich

A matter of taste & philosophy but I would recommend an Edelbrock 1404 for a normal 260. Runs out of the box and no need to fool around with float adjustments. A bit rich though as all of the US carbies but can be tuned leaner by using the separately supplied tuning/jetting kit. Can be ordered from Summit or any UK V8 specialist...

Hi Guys,
Just fitted a Edelbrock 1404 carb to my Tiger. What is the appropriate vacuum port to use for the distributor advance.
From front of the carb, right (lower) or left (higher) poition.
Thanks
Rich

Hi Tigerfan,
the vacuum port that is for the distributor is the higher of the two and on the left when looking straight at the carb,i.e on the Off Side of the car.
The other is a full time vacuum for an air motor that might control an air cleaner flap etc.

Hi Redbaren,
Thanks for the reply. Will use the higher port on the offside of the car (RH drive)
Thanks
Rich

On basically the same subject I have an edlebrock 1405 for my 289. Tested it briefly on my other Tiger & seemed good but put the Holley 600 back prior to some long trips last year. Would this be considered correct for a 289 with Edelbrock inlet manifold
