You could try Peter Knight in Daventry, not used him but have heard he knows about American V8s

Speak to Richard Campbell at Wards in Rugby(R 543900), he has done a great amount of work for me and he is good with V8's. PM me if you need more information.

Regards
John

Radiuses worn away on the valve lifters.
If I'm not careful I could lose my sense of humour with this car. :|

Martin,
if you do not know the history/mileage of the engine then new hydraulic lifters should be used in the rebuild.
Have you checked the camshaft lobes have not worn through the hardened surface,if so they will destroy new lifters very quickly.

My next job.
To do this properly is it cam in or cam out?

Martin,
to check the camshaft you will need to remove it from the block, being careful not to "nick" the camshaft brgs whilst you withdraw from the front of the block.
At the same time you can check the end float of the timing chain sprocket and thrust plate to the camshaft that you will be using in the rebuild.
You will probably be using a new timing chain and sprockets as the original will be stretched by now.

This is quickly turning into the engine rebuild I didn't want to do.
Not a happy bunny.
