Windscreen replacement

Post by pushrod » Mon Sep 29, 2014 9:03 am

I had a stone slightly crack the screen on the Monte trip, almost directly in my line of vision, 10-12mm in diameter. I had Autoglass visit but they couldn't repair the crack because it was within the sweep of the wiper. So next step a replacement screen.

Has anyone had a screen replaced without removing the surround?

I'm reluctant to remove the lot in case the screen is rusted, I'd prefer to do this in a year or two when the car gets a re-spray and I've got another surround as a back up.

Hi,

Yes, I had a screen replaced with the frame still in place. I sourced a used screen but the guy had sourced a new screen and would have fitted that if preferred. All went OK, no issues.
I live in Bristol, where he is also located, so not far from you in South Wales.
Can give details if you want them.

Hi Jerry

Yes please, details might help. I'll check with my insurance company first, they may have a preferential supplier.

Thanks

Lou.

Windscreen replacement

Lou,
Details are:
Steve, at Bristol Bodyglass, 21, Marjoram Place, Bradley Stoke, Bristol BS32 0DS Tel 01454 201883 or 0800 1970139.

Cannot recall cost I'm afraid but it was reasonable, he came recommended by the local garage as "old school", turned up on time and did a good job. Never personally met him, only spoke with him on the phone and he fitted the screen in my son's garage while I was at work. What I did write down was that he had sourced a new screen and that he would have fitted that all in for £200 if I'd wanted to go that way.
Hope this helps, any problems get in touch.
Jerry
