Martin,
the Brake Master cyl push rod that you have,with the altered end ,is from an original type of Master cyl,these were alloy and the push rod was different.
The pushrod had an extension on the end,which went into a different style of piston.
When changing to the more common iron cyl, to use the push rod,the extra extension was cut off,the end should have been profiled better,but that will work,you may want to file it to a better radius.
And yes, as others have mentioned,re sleeving of the cyl will work and be a good alternative to purchasing a new cyl.

That's very interesting. I didn't realise that it would have originally been aluminium.
Is there a reason that people changed them to iron or is it that they are easier to get when the aluminium one died?

Hi Martin,
Girling changed the cyls over from alloy to iron probably due to wear in the cyl,the iron being harder to score and leave a ridge from worn seals and piston.Although they still do wear over time.
New Girling iron cyls are still available,from the usual specialist suppliers

A bit of an update.

I've enquired about how much it would be to have the master cylinder resleeved and it would be £70 + £8.50 carriage, which was tempting to be honest as I am simply interested in seeing how they do it and how it looks when finished. That was with a stainless steel sleeve.
This is from the firm in Suffolk.

In the end I have bought a new one from a firm who sell spares for out brand of motor vehicle :wink: (that's an extra 5% discount you owe me Graham) for a little over £100.
That's me on bread and milk for another month.

They are supposed to look just like the original so I will post up some pics when it gets here so other people will be able to see what is available.

Very likely Brad but the clutch has one too so it should have been blobs.

If you want to make your own, I can get the dimensions for your if you like.
On second thoughts, scrub that. IIRC the large hole is slightly tapered. It could be a tough one to make.
