Front Springs

I've recently stripped down the crossmember and on inspection found that my front coil springs are 10" tall (9 coils) where a standard Tiger spring should be 12.04". Also the rubber buffer "donuts" are missing. This means my Tiger is riding 2.5" lower that a standard car at the front. (It also has a larger diameter anti roll bar, uprated shocks and is poly bushed).

Anyone else with a similar spring set up on a road car?

The car handles fine, but now I know why I get beached on speed humps!

I had the same setup but with 13" rims and 60 profile tyres on an Alpine. It handled far better but this was before speed bumps came along. I could only get 3 fingers under the centre of the crucifix. Scooped up a Monk Jack once and then smelled like a barbeque for the next 24 hours!

Id go for bigger wheels to lift you up a bit.

Hi Lou, yes I had something similar to yours. Problem I gather is the replacement springs readily available from the specialists have the wrong rating, so it's common to see them chopped to get the desired ride hide on a Tiger. Though as you say this is at the expense of suspension travel.

As Gary said the drop spindles conversion for the Tiger works a treat, discussed also in an earlier thread: www.sunbeamtiger.co.uk/forum/viewtopic. ... t=spindles Having done the conversion last year, I'd highly recommend it! Tiger now handles much better, with Koni's.

Gary has loads of these drop spindles, off a Minx I think, best give him a call.

Beauty about the drop spindles is that it allows you to have a full size spring given the complete suspension travel with the correct ride height on a Tiger, and allegedly the steering/suspension geometry is improved. Added bonus is that you can fitter deeper offsets front alloys, as the wheel rim now clears the top ball joint.
