Engine timing chain cover - what's the round cover for?

Post by pushrod » Tue Dec 17, 2013 12:30 am

In the process of stripping the motor down for a rebuild. Can anyone tell me what the round plug like cover on the timing chain cover is for?

Is this normal on a Tiger 260 or is it something I've inherited from a different car/motor set up.

Photo 1 below shows the cover circled in yellow, photo 2 is a view from another angle.

Thanks

Lou.

Lou,
the round blanking plug that you have was for an early 221/260 timing cover which had a breather tube fitted,if you look in photo 2 you will see a hole in the front of the block which would match up to the breather tube on the alloy cover.
Later 260/289 engine did not have this on the timing cover.

Thanks David.

Were any Tigers fitted with the breather tube or did this pre-date the model.

Wonder how it came to be fitted to my car.

I'll leave it on for the novelty factor!
