windscreen frame to body rubber

Post by JAYANDSHEL » Wed Feb 27, 2013 11:36 pm

Just in the process of changing screen rubber and body to frame rubber.
Looking for advice on rubber wedges. At what stage do they go in, between which part of the body to frame rubber?
Thanks Jay.

They go on between the windscreen frame and the body seal IIRC.

What stops the wedge just going up into the frame as you tighten the frame down. I dont see what the wedge will do if it just goes upto the frame

Me being really sad, I take pics of everything and actually videod the car after I had removed the windscreen.

I've just watched it and the order is...

bodywork,
dash,
Sealant,
wedge,
seal,
windscreen.

I was close...ish

This is the order they were on my car.

Thanks Graham it looks like i'm on the right track I knew this would be a job that was going to give me a head ache it would seem the last bit of putting the completed window back on the car is down to trial and error and every car will be different.
Still would be nice to hear from someone who has done it

Sorry martin 172 was posting at the same time, by putting the wedge under the body seal does that not create a gap under the body to seal rubber? do you then just pump lots of sealer in after its fixed down in place to fill any gaps?

I haven't put mine back on the car yet but I made the vid to remind me when I did.
It was taken off a couple of years ago and my memory is poor hence the vid.

You can have a look at the vid if you like which shows it just after I had removed the windscreen frame with the rubber seal attached to it but I will have to load it onto photobucket but you must promise not to laugh at my Tommy Cooper impersonation.

Alternatively, you could wait for a specialist to give you a definitive answer.
