LAT 72 Radio consoles

Post by marinerblueuk » Mon Jan 21, 2013 5:48 pm

Having got a nice 1960's Motorola radio I thought that it would be nice to see if I could get the console to go with it. 2 on Ebay in the US - 1 supposedly complete but in tatty condition went for $1237 last night and the second one which is better condition but doesn't have all the bits has bids starting at $975!
Unless I can think of another way to fit the radio which doesn't look out of place its back to listening to V8 music. ( I wasn't fussed in the first place but my wife was wanting some music so she didn't have to talk to me on the last journey we did!)

If I was interesting in having one, which I'm not, I'd try making one.
The materials would cost around a tenner and so if your make a mess you have lost very little.

The photos in the auctions give you all the info you need.
A couple of dimensions may help or even some templates from somone who has one.

Anyone (IMO ofcourse) who pays over $1000 for a bit of cardboard and some bits of tin needs a good slap.

There is a very nice fibreglass repo made of those here in the UK, The fella's name is Peter and he can be contacted on 02476 611861

Peter also makes some very good quality Mk2 headlamp rings in glassfibre too which can be either chromed or painted.

Give him a call.

Hi, we use a Logitech portable stereo ipod player, the charge lasts around 5hrs or plug it into the cigarette lighter. Costs around £70. Miles cheaper and you can choose your own music.

Been on the lookout for one of these myself.

I've tried contacting the guy who makes the UK reproductions several times by email following a PM he sent me back last summer, with no response.

Might try him via the phone number.

Agreed the prices being paid for these stateside is crazy.

Just fit cherry bomb silencers (?) And you won't need a radio or worry how to install it!

That's a good idea - I won't be able to hear if my wife's complaining about no music!

I absolutely wont have anything to do with radio consols especially as Ive now had 3 pass through my hands.
Same goes for MKII headlight rims-2 pairs
Late Chrysler Alpines must be worth a fortune. Had one of them too. :shock:in original metalic blue

Seriously: I think they are over rated especially at that price. You dont need anything like that in your Tiger, its one of the best Ive seen. Ive found my wife stops moaning when I 'unintentionly' do very very long wheel spins and then demonstrate how bad the brakes are.

Best way to stop your missus moaning is to take the passenger seat out.
