I have been looking at different options on filter set ups.

I allready have the 90deg adapter, so if I could use it, it would be good.

The trouble is all the filters are about 3.6" in dia and won't quite fit.

I found these on summits web site, but they don't have an anti drain back valve. With the filter needing to be horizontal I would think it would need one.

I presume the anti drain back valve sops the filter from emptying if not verticle and the fitting surface at the top.
The K&N is very expensive as well.

Any help appreciated.

The only concern is the by pass valve is from 11psi-17psi compared to the
8psi-11psi of the windsor filter. It does still open at the others upper limit.

I have had another look and there seems to be quite a variance in psi in different filters for the windsor anyway, so it won't matter.

Fram 22psi
motorcraft 11-14
morroso 20psi.

Looks like the way to go is to use the smaller dia filter and find a adapter fitting for the 90deg.

Unless someone can see a problem I can't :?:

I'm pretty sure marinerblue had the same problem except he managed to get the filter on. However as the motor moved about the filter undid itself. No harm done but a few choice words had at the time.

If hes not picked up on this, try PM'ing him.

Simon, I found out there is a small dia filter for a Taurus that has the same thread. It is only 3" in dia instead of the 3.6".

Hi Mal,

I use the same adaptor as you and on that adaptor I have mounted a Mann oilfilter with the code W 940/81. As a reserve I have a Fram oilfilter with the code PH 2881 and that filter has a diameter of 94mm which is aproximately 3 and 11/16 inch, while the length is 144 mm which is aproximately 5 and 11/16 inch. One oilfilter costs here in the Netherlands 13,50 Euros and this filters are ready available. The adaptor I bought via internet in the USA and including all sort of taxes and P&P I paid 120 Euros which is quite steep in my book.
With the oilfilter in situ there is not very much clearance (a few milimeters), but it is enough.
It is some fiddling to get the filter on but no force was used.

I run with the short stubby Fram PH2874, though might run with Peter's suggestion of the larger PH2881 - if I have the room!!

do you have the filter pointing down. This is the way I had it on the 260, but that was with log manifolds.
With the headers this is not possible. I need to angle it forward as in the photo.
There is about 4mm clearance from the edge of the adapter to the chassis.
I have ordered a filter for it today. I will post some more pic's when I fit it.

Hi Mal,

Yes the filter is pointing down. My Tiger has a standard 289 ci engine.
I overlooked that you have headers on your engine. Sorry about the confusion!

I forgot to mention that I have used in years the Fram 2874 too just like Tomasseli is doing, but....in that case I used a different adaptor. With that adaptor the oilfilter is not pointing down but sidewards therefore it is in this case not possible to use the bigger Fram oilfilter I am using now.

Only just picked this up - and yes I did have an issue with the filter touching the chassis and working itself loose. The result was it dumped a couple of litres of oil while on the motorway and produced a smokescreen that the army would have been proud of!
Apart from having to spend days trying to get the engine clean it was solved just by rotating the adaptor a fraction of an inch just to get a tiny bit of clearance. Seems to be working OK although I have marked the filter and check its position after every time I take the car out!

Thats the diameter oil filter you need. Mine arrived today.

You running a oil cooler as well Harry ?. Does that help with engine temp ?

Looks good Mal, they do get dirty, if you use them tho. I had the 90deg adapter machined on mine, to clear headers, so have a bit more clearance. The oil cooler was on the car when I got it, so have never run it with out to compare, but I have no cooling probs so maybe it works.
