Spare wheel retainer

Post by marinerblueuk » Thu Nov 22, 2012 7:48 pm

Having moved from 13 to 14 inch wheels I found that the disc and bolt that retains the spare wheel is now too short. I've tried to find a longer bolt but can't seem to find one with the right thread. What have others done or do you just leave it loose?

there are 2 different lengths i think alpine ones are longer .have you got the wheel so that when its on the boot floor you see the inside off the wheel?

I've moved over to 15 inch and with the extra clearance needed for the Brembo brakes I've simply run with a space saver from a Peugeot 206. Job done, and loads more room in boot. I know a 'bit off topic' but might be a solution. Space saver from a scrap yard off a Peugeot 206 is about £20. Anyway, so my specialist tells me

I'd read that the alpine ones were longer but they seem to be like hen's teeth! It looks like either trying to have one made up or resorting to something like Tyreweld.
The space saver idea is interesting though - I'd need to work out what size I needed for 185/60X14!

Do you mean how long the bolt is? I'll measure it when I'm in the garage tomorrow

The bolt I have is 4cm long from the metal disc to the tip point.
