Shifter dismantle

Post by Mal » Sat Aug 18, 2012 4:55 am

Anyone stripped down a shifter for a re-chrome. Is the reverse lock out lever supposed to slide out first to dismantle it or is there some other trick to peform first.

Hi Mal,

You need to unbraze the piece at the bottom of the shifter that lifts up when you pull the tee bar, then knock out the wire and then the tee bar will come out.

There is a spring inside to retrieve as well.

Didn't believe it myself but you can leave the plasticbush in place for the rechrome. It works...
