Wheel Jacks?

Could anyone tell me if there was more than one type of wheel jack supplied with Tigers as the one I have seems longer (50cm or 19.5") than the ones I have seen. The design is correct and painted the same grey as the seat frames.

My car has had a tow bar at some point and I am welding up holes in the boot floor so trying to work out where the jack was originally positioned?

Lifting jack - 1201342 (black paint)
Up to B9473324 20" Shelley - Made in England

Lifting jack- 5220473 (grey paint)
From B9473325 and after. 19" Shelley - Made in England

This is the jack on a round cornered MKI B9471901LRXFE
The MKIA had it in the same locaion IIRC.. and i htink someone posted a pic of a MKII boot in another thread.

Thanks for the info unfortunately link not working. I have a few photos of cars but none with my jack. Also the wheelbrace was fitted in various positions so any more pics would be most helpful. :D

Ash. Here is the pic of the boot tools Michael is pointing to in his post. As Michael says, of an early Tiger but I think I am right in saying this configuration is good for your car. The retaining clips fixed to the boot floor for the jack are bigger than those for the wheel brace.

Things do get changed around later for the MKII to allow for the revised tie down fttings for the spare wheel.

This pic shows the grey painted lifting jack. I think the wheel brace is fitted the wrong way around here as the socket end should face the spare.
Also shows a very nice tool roll set!! (We need someone to re-produce a factory correct roll in the UK.)

BTW have you got the wooden battery pad fixed to the chassis leg yet?

Am I understanding it correctly that the jack and brace hold-down clips orientation shown for Mark11 was unique to the Mark II? Or was it also that way for the Mark 1A's?

The reason I ask is that my Mark IA has it as shown for the Mark II, but the Vin number is only ...1447. I am particularly curious because the car came new to me from the dealer in 1967 with Mark II seats!

mine looks like that, but my 15x 7 spare wheel doesn't seem to fit. Have I the wrong straps? And where does the trolley jack clip in?

BigBob, you never carry a spare wheel - remember LMC?? and for the trolley jack you should put that on the passenger seat as; 1 - it's easier to get hold of as you are always using it, and 2 - no passenger would dare take a ride out with you :lol:

Thanks again Graham, those photos have solved the mystery!

With the original holes lining up it looks like the jack must have been repositioned as MK11 when the later jack was introduced as I have put the spare wheel in and the jack wont fit!

The wheelbrace also fits in the same position as the MK11 with the socket towards the spare wheel but mine is only attached with 2 clips ( North & South). The socket end just sits in the recess of the boot floor.

Is it just the picture or are the bars on the two jacks welded at a slightly different height?

I never got a jack and wheel brace with my car. I should be able to find one from a Hillman if I can't from an Alpine. Would one from a Hillman be the same :?: or close to being the same to work :?:

Sorry Graham I forgot but yes the wooden batton is still on the chassis leg. Should it be painted body colour Graham?

Would like a tool roll for my car so if you get some made stick my name down :D

i sold the plastic case for a tool roll on ebay for £200 recently .some people r nuts :mrgreen:
