Wheel stud thread size

Hi all, it's time to replace the rusting wheel nuts on my Tiger MK1.
Can anyone help me with the thread size on the wheel studs.
Also should I use Stainless steel or Aluminium wheel nuts to be used on Minilite wheels.
And my last question does anyone know of a good UK supplier for wheel nuts.

If your rims are Minilites I would contact them first. Then you know you are getting the correct nuts for the wheels.

Hi Derek,

I believe the thread size is 7/16, but not sure of the thread pitch. I fairly sure they are a standard thread for wheel nuts.

Derek,

Stud size is 7/16 inch UNF and the standard 4 stud hole Tiger wheel has a 108mm PCD.

Although this is not part of an answer to your question, just thought I would add a general info point. It is old information for many but not everyone seems to know it.

Should you ever be running stock wheels again for a concours event, or perhaps as a spare tire, keep in mind the factory lug nuts are somewhat unusual by today's standards. They, and the corresponding wheel hole, have a 60 degree taper. Most nuts and wheels today, except for racing wheels, have a 30 degree taper. If the taper of the nut and the wheel do not match, the wheel and nut will not seat and torque properly. The result will be ruined stock wheel holes and a wheel that likely will come off while driving.

I would say that is fairly important point to bring up Gene. I for one did not know that and important to me because my spare is a stock rim. I do however carry what I assume are the correct wheel nuts for the stock spare.

Gene made a good point about the different taper angles. This is something that I discovered when talking to Mister Tee (see earlier post).
Another very important safety point is to ensure that all repainted wheels have had all paint removed from the taper surfaces.
Failure to do this will often result in self-loosening wheel nuts and possible wheel loss.
Please don't think that it just a case of wheel imbalance. One or more wheels are probably about to fall off!!

You are quite welcome. Glad I could make a contribution. I also carry the stock wheel and factory nuts as my spare, so this is something somewhat top of mind with me.

Note that if wheel spacers or non-standard wheels are used, it is vital to ensure that every wheel nut is threaded on to the stud by a MINIMUM of 1.5 times the stud diameter.
In this case 1.5 x 7/16 = 21/32 inch (0.65625 inch).
