The latest eBay offering :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUNBEAM-TIGER ... 35c322894b

has raised a few questions about 'F' registered machines - how many and how late etc.

The Club Register records roughly 100 'E' and 'F' Tigers first registered in the UK. We know of at least 7 with 1968 start dates

UXP 362F B382100559 LRXFE 08/01/1968
JDO 7F B9473649 HROFE 10/01/1968
MEL 957F B382100574 LRXFE 16/02/1968
TPF 356F B382100604 LRXFE 16/02/1968
TGR 630 B9473689 HROFE 19/03/1968
SUK 705F B9473531 HROFE 29/04/1968
CPP 280F B9473730 HROFE 09/05/1968
(LRX's are Hartwell MKII's)

But of these 100 or so registrations in years 1967-1968 many are logged with the Club and the DVLA with much later dates, probably because they missed the first move by the DVLA to automating their records. It seems to me worthwhile getting these dates right on the record!

Do you have a 67/68 'E' or 'F' plate Tiger and do you know when it was first registered? Want to know more? Check out your Tiger using:
https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPo ... =directgov Click on 'vehicle enquiry' and enter your registration number and select 'sunbeam'.

The Club will be happy to take corrections!!

How on Earth did MK1s get registered in 1968?
Did they fall down the back of the fridge or something?

MAE 475F was made in 1965 but appears to have been first registered on 1 August 1967.

The STOC Register shows Jensen dates of some other Tigers with 'F' registrations earlier than MAE 475F. It still amazes me that cars could have sat around a show room for 2 years before finding first buyers.

There is though evidence of demonstrators being kept on trade plates which would account for some of the interval. Anything to delay paying the Purchase Tax!

Looking at how some were described on their log books nothing would surprise me.

It seems to have been like the wild west back then.

A friend of mine had a series 5 Alpine registered MOT 151 L

it had come in from the Channel Isles, and I believe still exists.
"OT" was a Southampton, Hants, registration.

My car, an ordinary mark one, was built in 1965 but not registered until 1 April 1967. Its LHS 500E. A Scottish car:-).

When I was looking at Potential purchases, I viewed a couple of 'E' Registered but 1965 built cars so not that unusual?

Since starting this topic an even later UK first registration date has been noted.

YBD 98G = B9473659 HRO FE on 18th May 1969

The last Tiger built left Jensens on 27th June 1967
