Team Tiger at Silverstone 9th August

Post by B9471845 » Thu Jul 30, 2009 4:01 pm

The J. O. Engineering Sunbeam Challenge race is nearly upon us! Our hosts at Silverstone this year are the Bentley Drivers' Club, which means a new audience beyond our usual AMOC friends.

Entries are strong despite the economic conditions which have affected grids at some other meetings; 16 Tigers and Alpines so far, some familiar faces lacking but some newcomers (to this race at least!) stepping in - and we are hoping for more to come.

Please come along to Silverstone on Sunday 9th August and show support for the Tigers at this special 60th Anniversary BDC meet; plenty of fabulous cars on show in the paddock and a varied race card including pre-war and post-war Bentleys, Aston Martins, Morgans, Masters Historic Saloons and an Allcomers' handicap race. More prcise details on timing to follow once we have received our final regulations.

Results from yesterday's race are available at

Race 16.
Excellent race with battles throughout the field; Pamela Cochrane fending off Tristan for most of the race to claim a podium 3rd by 1.23s on her maiden UK race, Andrew Yates finishing 1.4s ahead of Tony Eckford in the LM Tiger, Paul Clayson was in that mix also until a spin on the last lap, thankfully without damage, and I spent a very long 10 final minutes trying to keep Cliff Gray behind me, only just succeeding!
Jackie took 1st overall, Tristan won the MM (Mildly Modified) class, Chris Draycott won the Alpine honours.
Commiserations to Amanda Clarke who was the only DNF with a broken Alpine at Beckett's after 5 laps, on her first ever race.
Great to see such a good turnout of cars and STOC supporters, and thanks to J.O Engineering for the sponsorship.
Bentley Driver's Club hosted a superb meeting overall, plenty of beautiful cars to admire.
Already looking forward to next year's event!
