Team Tiger at Castle Combe Bank Holiday Monday August 27th

Post by B9471845 » Thu Jul 12, 2007 5:04 pm

At Snetterton the Sunbeam team extended their lead in the AMOC Intermarque Championship - we now lead the Aston 6-cylinder team 401 points to 345 (see http://www.amoc.org/images/stories/docu ... ton_07.pdf ), thanks to a sterling 4th place by Simon James - less than a second off a podium - and a class-winning 14th by Tristan Bradfield with Paul Clayson 16th. Tristan still leads the individual Championship scores, but with Paul a close 2nd, and consistently good Ferrari driver Tim Mogridge in 3rd, it's still a battle for the trophy.

3 races to go and Sunbeam still needs good results over the well-supported AM6 team to win the team championship.

Next IM race is on Bank Holiday Monday, 27th August, with a rare outing to Castle Combe in Wiltshire. A mixed programme sees 2 Aston races, 2 Porsche races, the Ferrari Classic and 3 races organised by Castle Combe Racing Club for FF1600s, Special GTs and Saloons.

Castle Combe is a fast, open circuit with good viewing from the banking around the track, and always plenty of action at the notorious Quarry corner. Nice pubs down in the village, too! Come along and support Team Tiger !

Castle Combe Update

Post by B9471845 » Wed Aug 22, 2007 8:27 am

5 Tigers entered for this 5th Championship race out of 7; Championship Team points count from the 3 highest-scoring cars from each race, whilst individual points count from the 5 best points finishes. With a slightly depleted Bank Holiday grid (still 20 entries!), it's a chance for Tristan and Paul in the Pre-70 mildly-modified class to finish higher up the field and increase their net season total - Championship honours beckon! (No pressure, chaps... :)

It's also a chance to see Peter Dodd's 5.7 litre Tiger in action in the Pre-70 Modified class. Despite a couple of chicanes, this is a fast circuit quite well suited to Tiger horsepower.

Intermarque qualifying is scheduled for 11am. Racing starts at 12.30, it's an 11-race programme with the Intermarque, race 9, scheduled for 4.45pm.

Come along and support Team Tiger!

A day of mixed fortunes on an individual basis, but Team Tiger extended their lead over nearest rival team Aston Martin 6-cylinder, exact numbers TBC but we're now something like 501 pts versus 435, in a race described as the most exciting of the day, with battles for position at every level.

A cock-up by yours truly meant most of us only got 2 laps' practice, with consequent poor times, however determined race driving and crowd-pleasing overtaking by all resulted in a 6th for Simon James, despite gear selection problems, 12th and a first Class A win for Andrew Yates, 14th for Paul Clayson, 15th for the milk float and Tristan Bradfield claimed 18th despite stopping to check a broken exhaust. Peter Dod's season woes continued with a major engine expiry, after a fine practice performance. As well as sorting the gearbox, Simon may have engine problems too.

Tristan still leads the individual championship but losing track place with the exhaust stop cut his lead over Paul Clayson, so it's all to play for in the last 2 races to try to improve on the 5 best scores.

66 points might sound a healthy lead over AM6 but their team is well-equipped with top-running cars, so Team Tiger need to keep scoring well to win the Championship.

Next round at Oulton Park on 15th September. Come along, enjoy a great day's racing at this challenging circuit, and support the team!
