I have just found this company that supplies a Solid State circuit board to repair the Smiths clock.

Update

The clock is ticking away happily.
Quite an involved operation to fit but very good online instructions.
Its nice that all the original brass internals are used and not taken out and replaced with a quartz mechanism.
I would recommend it.
