Brads Tiger
martin172 (aka scannerman),
There is a very detailed description of how to overhaul the Toploader gearbox plus an excellent photo of all the transmission's innards.
See CW 9, pages 19 to 21 for “Let's have a look at the gearbox” written by Bob May, back in the late 70s.I suppose this re-raises the issue of Tech Tips.
Has there ever been any tech tips in CW about gearboxes re. repairs/improvements etc?

Gene,
Thanks for the Mustang Monthly gearbox link.
This is definitely not a job for the faint hearted!
This is another Toploader link from Classic Tiger:

Thanks Ned,nedsTiger wrote:Brad,
The box has been modified as Gary sugested, the vent in the lid has been welded up and a tailshaft breather was fitted.
The box was fully rebuilt using a fast road kit from "Dan Williams" in the states including new needle bearings, synchros and new 1st and 3rd cogs as they were showing signs of wear. All new seals and gaskets were used throughout.
The modifications were advised by Dan Williams who only builds ford toploaders and has done so for many years. I did include some literature in the folder about the toploader boxes and how to set them up correctly.
You seem to be making excellent progress on the bodywork, keep up the good work
Regards
Ned
slowing down of late due to other things going on, trying to do at least an hour a day so getting there.
I should have got you to bring Celly paint across as having a hard time finding it locally & no-one wants to post it from the UK.

If you struggle try classiccarpaints.com or vintagepaint.com who both supply celly and will match to samples.
Painting celly is so easy but solvent based 2k will last longer. You may die applying it but it will look great!
You will need a dust-free environment as 2k is not touch dry for at least 10 minutes. Also good safety equipment like the appropriate masks, goggles etc.
Have you decided on a colour yet Brad?
