Dear Santa.... Do you have two lower wishbones the lower right would do.
If you have any dimensions to check the true, and pictures of cross member strengthening brackets that would be fine.

Search 'Crossmember' on the CAT forum and talk (pm) Randy Willett (oneoffive).
He overhauls and upgrades them. He should be able to tell you all you need to know.
Btw, Randy is a forum user on here too.

Thanks Martin. I have found all that info. I was living in the vein hope that there maybe one in the UK. I have the ability and equipment to straighten them myself. what I would like is any info on measurements for the cross member. In its previous life it looks like its had a smash on the right side. whilst the car has been driving fine it wasn't until I took it apart I could see the damage. More annoyingly someone had put back together bent as all the packing in the right spring housing fell out when apart. At least I now know why my car sat low on that side.

Martin. Update on the cross member. I spoke with Randy today and got the measurements required. Bad news is that I have a bent cross member which is out by 1/2-3/4" across the shock towers which would account for no shims that side. Good news, I have a complete Alpine Cross member I found 5 miles from home, will start remanufacture to Tiger cross member this week.

Shame that your suspicions were confirmed but isn't it nice when you find what you want just up the road.

Good Luck on your project. A cross member is bit of a challenge, but some patience and thought will win out.

All these series Rootes Group X members are basicly the same. I have one here from a series V Hillman. Which measures up the same as the Tiger
X member. I was told by a local Sunbeamer who has played with these cars for years along with the Super Minx cross member.

We always place an extra surface plate over the thin area just below the track rod detents. Both perimeter welded and button hole welds for strength. Be sure to hammer shape the piece into the indent area where the lower wish bone fulcrum mounts.

Randy. By making the filler in three parts I was able to shape the vertical section as a one piece gusset which runs from the inner lower bulkhead to just beyond chassis bolt holes and runs just beside the access hole in the bottom and welded all the way. all in 2mm plate, hope that makes sense.

Got your meaning. What ever strengthens that design weak area is a good benefit no matter how you approach the issue . . . . .good lookin' workmanship.

I've had 35years or bashing farm machinery into shape when the staff break it. give me a hammer, gas and welder. Big Bob may have many different car parts on his car, but I bet he hasn't got Massey Fergusson!!

That's mightily impressive work there Tim! Excellent stuff!
I have 600 lbs (stock is nearer 200 lbs IIRC) front road springs and the Koni shocks are on medium (ish) setting. Have been told that the shock turrets on the crossmember would be best seam welding all around, something that some of the race boys do.
Haven't done that as yet...... touch wood I seem to be fine
Worth doing Tim? for peace of mind depending upon the direction you are taking with your setup.

Thanks Tony. Randy did suggest just that, so I have welded towers at top and bottom. I have HD springs from Sunbeam spares, not sure what lbs they are. Off to see Red Barron tomorrow. He's building me a 289 5 bolt. Engine bay and X member sprayed today. I have no idea how I am going to get the engine back in without scratching it.
