New guy intro

Hello everyone. I have followed the postings on your forum for a while and decided it was time to join in as well. My name is Gene and I am the original owner of a mediterranean blue Mark 1A. I retired a couple of years ago and am finally getting to enjoy my car a lot more. I started dabbling in autocrossing last year. I am in the midst of getting the rear spring perch front mount cracks rewelded and reinforced. Discovered both sides were cracked over the winter. Now I think I know what was that loud bang I heard last year in the middle of a hard left turn! Anyway, I would be more than happy to be a resource from here to anyone on your side of the pond if the occasion arises. I see you have found a local source for Grade 8 bolts, but will be happy to source other things, at cost, should the need arise! Cheers, Gene

Gene,
Hello and welcome to STOC.
Thank you very much for your kind offer to source parts at cost.
You may live to regret this generous gesture!

Hi Gene and welcome aboard.
As said, that is a very generous offer.
Any chance of sending me a few boxes of Twinkies.
Cheers mate, Martin.

Thanks everyone for the words of welcome! Martin, I sit here in the company of a New Castle Brown Ale contemplating your interest in packages of Twinkies. Yes I know more interesting beverages are available even here, but not at my national chain grocery store. Anyway, I am sure you lads keep the really good stuff close to home. But I digress. Could your interest in packages of twinkies perhaps lead to a mutually beneficial barter opportunity? Say an exchange for an appropriate number of tins of biscuits from a suitably renown baker? Cheers, Gene

Newcastle Brown is a good choice.
Funnily enough, the first drink I had when I went to America was one of those.
It was then that I acquired a taste for those E number laden bundles of cakey loveliness.
What are these biscuits you have a pang for?

Is it just that Twinkies in UK are expensive or are they difficult to come by as well? Just asking as I spent a week in Rugby in June for work, and if I'd only known the interest from my colleagues at work, I would have brought a case with me as I'm living in the Colonies as well, also with a Mk1A, but in my case just picked it up after it was sitting still recent 30 years and it needs a total redo bottom to top.
I also received very intense questionning about how Twinkies are produced, and in reply I gave the link to this site, where the author spent a long time uncovering every Twinkie-related factoid available.

Twinkies aren't available at all over here.
There's probably some sort of EU directive banning them because they are too sweet or too yellow or some crap like that
I hope you guys are going to let us see some pics of your cars.

Martin, I have not been in England for many years, but I seem to remember some delectible chocolate and cream biscuits made by a company called Foxes, Fox's or something like that. I also remember some very enjoyable English toffee I picked up whilst passing through Marks and Sparks on a London trip long ago! The barter opportunities expand!
I will look to post a picture of my car in the very near future.
Cheers, Gene

OK, so here's mine arriving home and also as found buried in a garage, although I'll start a different posting and stop hijacking this one after this, if need be, apologies to the OP.
This Tiger hasn't been switched on since early 1980's and it doesn't even roll at this point, we had to use a hand winch to get it on and off the trailer. I don't know yet if the differential is broken up or if its merely the rear brakes or bearings being seized up, may find out this winter, but too busy right now, it was just too good a deal to pass up (a very good friend did all the work over about 9 months to find this vehicle and negotiate the ability to look at it and offer to buy it, then he let me buy it instead). Came with an extra bonnet, hood, and boot lid, plus a hardtop (aftermarket type) plus a few boxes of other parts.
I may spend the winter making it a driver, just to check and make sure I like it enough to do the full job, as I'll probably need to sell my Healey 3000 to pay for the works on this one.
