Tiger alternative-a Monster Miata!

Post by V8 burble » Thu Jun 30, 2011 4:16 pm

Anybody who is looking for an alternative to a Tiger could consider a V8 (usually a Ford 302 or 347) engined Monster Miata (MX5).

Kits and parts available from:

This video even refers to the Sunbeam Tiger as an example of shoehorning a V8 into a small sports car:

In New Zealand this guy has fitted twin turbos to his Lexus V8 and here he is busy at a trackday sprint:

V8 Miatas or MX5 are popular in the US. Flyin' Miata do a kit to fit an LS engine and there is an excellent build story on the Targa Miata which is being rebuilt with an LS V8 for this year's Targa Newfundland rally.

Here is the latest entries in the build diary.

Well worth a sit down with a coffee!

That Flyin' Miata site looks interesting:

It seems as though the Chevrolet LS engine is now the preferred unit to the Ford 302 for reasons of weight and original bhp.

You would still be hard pressed to put one in a Tiger. Chevy LS engines are absolutely everywhere and lot of go fast bits available. Maybe they should look at the Coyote engine Ford are producing, but I am bias. :)
