steering wheels.

Post by Mal » Wed Oct 28, 2009 7:29 am

I am going to buy a new steering wheel for the Tiger. One a little smaller that does not get in the way of my lanky legs. I was going to get a 13" but was warned it may be to small. What size are others using :?: and how do you like them :?: . I was also asked if it had tilt steering. To be honest I have not had a good look. What model did tilt steering start, or was it on the mk 2 only :?: .
Cheers Mal

Hi Mal,

I recently purchased a Moto Lita steering wheel which is 14" and my Alpine steering wheel is 13" by memory. I have not installed the Moto Lita yet, but even with the Alpine's lighter steering you do work a bit harder at low speed. When you add another 200 Kg's for a Tiger I think you will notice it. I have never heard of tilt adjustable steering in an Alpine or Tiger. The Tiger's had the adjustable steering column (in/out) from what I am led to believe, but never tilted (or did they ?).

Regards, Robin.

We are using a 14 inch wheel which is from the ford RS range. It has a very thick rim in leather and find it ok at speed but is heavy when parking.
I think 14 inch is the smallest people use in general.
As a note of interest the spline of the steering shaft is the same as that from a mk1 escort or all of the capri range.

i use a mota lita too.
they make a hub and horn button for the tiger which makes it straightforward.

i have a quick ratio rack too and the steering effort is fine with 195 tyres and a little heavy on 245 tyres :)

i like the wheel.
