I took off my speedo cable, and when I came to connect the new one, I noticed that the gearbox does not have a square drive receptacle for the cable inner to fit into. Instead there is just a threaded hole about 2cm deep and approx. 5mm diameter. I suspect something has dropped out as it was working OK with the old cable which is identical. Unfortunately I cant find anything that might have dropped out.
The parts lists are confusing, and I cant tell whether there is a part that would fit this description. Can anyone help? Thanks

Speedo cable
If you got the cable from Brian Postle you need to take a piece out of the drive to fit the new one
Re: Speedo cable
I didnt, its from Speedograph Richfield. Thats probably the piece I need!tigerman7347 wrote:If you got the cable from Brian Postle you need to take a piece out of the drive to fit the new one
Anyone got one they can spare please?
Well it turns out that there was nothing missing. The speedo cable inner is too short to reach into the drive gear. It should protrude about 2 inches from the end. Will get a replacement sent soon.
The threaded bit allows you to pull out the drive gear by inserting a 3/8 inch unf bolt. Clever eh?
(thanks to Brian for his help in clarifying how it works).
