Taking a T5 out without the motor

Post by le tigre » Thu Apr 23, 2020 1:10 pm

Hi
I hope everyone their family and friends are well.
Advice needed please. It looks like the rear bearing on my gearbox is very worn. Huge play on the output shaft. So my question is, is it possible to remove a T5 box without taking the engine out ? Fingers crossed someone has a brilliant idea. Thanks in advance.
Best wishes, Andy

Hi
Yes you could. But you would have to cut out the "X-Frame" and then weld it back in.
So best to take it out with the engine.

Met a guy at a show a few years back who said he was a mechanic in the early seventies and they removed the radiator and pulled the engine and gearbox forward suspended on a crane hook and jack and then split the transmission from the block to replace a clutch on a customers car, might be worth a try.
