Has anyone tried Valvoline VR1 Racing Motor Oil 20W-50?
What do you use in your Tiger?
Engine oil
All engines with flat tappets require motor oil that contains 1000 to 1500 parts per million (ppm) zinc dialkydithiophosphate (ZDDP). Without the correct amount of ZDDP, which provides protection by clinging to the metal at high-friction areas, cam lobes can and will wear away.
I asked Real Steel what oil they would suggest to be used in a Tiger's engine. They said to use a mineral oil with zinc additive and they said that Valvoline was OK but didn't have a high enough zinc content.
I use Penrite Classic which has a high level of zinc.
Valvoline VR1 20/50 - 1021 ppm zinc
Penrite Classic Light 20/60 - 1610 ppm zinc

I run a 289 with solid lifters, is this what pushrod calls flat tappets?
