Hi Brad,
not had any dealings with them myself, but what sort of spec and cubic inch engine size are you thinking about.?
Standard 260,289,302,or modified or a Stroker engine?

I was thinking of 302 upwards, depending on cost....horse power gets expensive quickly!

Real steel have a good reputation for providing a range of engines to varying specs depending on your wallet.

I was going to get quotes from both, though Jez at CPP seems to be highly regarded by the cobra/ mustang brigade.
The trouble is when you start looking at engine specs its easy to end up looking at the higher end stuff like forged 347 units )

Hi Brad, I can't profer any information regarding the UK based engine builders I'm afraid and in choosing a build spec, you'll no doubt find opinions vary greatly (which in itself seems a particularly strong Tiger-trait...)
For what it's worth, I sourced mine from a builder in the States mainly because the company had a strong reputation amongst the Cobra community, and to be fair, the AUD against the USD at the time was well placed. I don't know how the EUR/GBP is against the USD nor what you would expect to pay freight wise (I had a contact for airfreight so it's not a fair comparison), but a reputable US build might be worth considering. I've always thought Tomaselli's engine sounded good and strong in his youtube clips - perhaps he has some advice. I personally didn't go the stroker option but instead went a 4.125" bore. Something a bit different but I'm extremely happy with the results.
One thing is guaranteed as you've already stated - horsepower can get expensive. Personally though, a good build over outright HP is always going to be money better spent (in my opinion).
Good luck in the hunt, Tom

Hi Brad,
As Bob has said in an earlier posting,Real Steel in the UK do have a good reputation for engines that they supply.
The downside to buying from the States for us would be the warranty,if it goes wrong long way to ship back :(
You say that you want a 302 above size engine, the next will be 331 Stroker unit,Real Steel do have these, maybe worth a look.

Can i ask a stupid question, whats the differeance between a 331 & a 347, is it bore or stroke?

Brad,
the difference comes from the Stroker kit,i.e crankshaft and rods, to achieve the capacity increase.

How about a supercharger? You can keep engine spec fairly normal & run 8psi safely. Loads of torque & 40% power increase from standard.
Alloy headed 302 with Rotrex blower = 490bhp & 570lb torque

Bob if i was in the UK i would think seriously about that, but here its a no go due to insurance limitations.

I was just wondering if the 331 has an extra rebore in hand compared to the 347?

Brad.
Its all done with shorter rod's. It's like magic, the bore stays the same.
