Monte Tour

Post by gvickery » Tue Jul 22, 2014 10:13 am

A co-driver place has become available due to a work commitment!!

If someone would like to co-drive with a STOC member on 50%/50% split of the cost of ticket and fuel, drop a line to the Club.

Just back from Novatech rolling road; new Edelbrock fitted by Clinton during extensive service required very little further tuning. Flywheel figures Min 220ft lb 1700rpm to 5200rpm, 219bhp at 5200, not tailing off. Quite pleased with that from a 260 with Edelbrock Performer plus cam and manifold. Numbers would be different tomorrow but the curves are nice and flat. Top gear from 10mph.

Spares acquired so far include alternator, fan belt, coil, disi cap, rotor arm, fuel pump, fuel filter.
Coil repositioned vertically on the arch ro reduce conducted heat from block and keep core bathed in oil- so they say, but comments on other thread noted :-(.
Second spare wheel and tyre booked into spares van (tyres are mono-rotational Yokos; will carry the kerbside one assuming gutter detritus is most likely puncture cause).
Brother and co-driver Dave is poring over map books and wondering how we're going to concentrate for such extended periods.

Anybody tried the RallyOdo iPhone app yet?

I tried it on the Coventry run yesterday and being a ludite could not get it to work. iPhone is in front of the glovebox so the co driver can zero it, and the roof was down, so I would have thought it would pick up the GPS.

I also had my Tiger set up on John Sleath's rolling road last week and got almost identical figures, just a few bhp less. The Holley was re-jetted for economy and I saw a 20% improvement in MPG on the way home.

Dave, why don't you load the other ipone app as well just in case. I've used that one and it works, just that you can't re-set the cumulative total if you wrong slot. It's called the ASE Rally Monitor or ARM. Costs a few quid. I have both on my phone, will try the RallyOdo but have the ASE as a fall-back.

Tristan has spoken with management at the Holiday Inn Ariel hotel, one of the original 1964 rally start points. They're looking forward to seeing 3 Tigers at least at 7am tomorrow morning, before we head off to the 11.10am Dover ferry. I understand most are heading to the ferry port tonight, but in case anyone else is making an early start tomorrow, join us if you can!

Any one on tour got internet access? Us poor owners who have missed out would like to know how it's going.

This is just to note everbody that the german " family team" has arrived safely at home. The animal went strongly back home after we left Grenoble this morning. A big thanks to the organizers and apologies to all we couldn't talk to because of too much driving...
