Tigers in Tiger Bay. (STOC Welsh Run - Sat October 19th)

Tigers in Tiger Bay (STOC Welsh Run - Saturday October 19th)

A change of plan - instead of a run through the Forest of Dean we will now meet up at the services on junction 35 of the M4, then a short run down to Cardiff Bay formerly known as Tiger Bay where we'll have a coffee at the Norwegian Church.

Following this it's a run along the coast via Penarth, Barry, Rhoose, St Donats, Southerndown, Ogmore and Porthcawl. Lunch stop will be either at Ogmore or Porthcawl.

From Porthcawl we skirt the delights of Port Talbot for a run up the Afan Valley and over the Bwlch mountain pass, the highest A road in Wales and then back down to the M4 for afternoon tea at the Llanerch Vineyard at Hensol. A round trip of 100 miles. A final hurrah for 2013 before we put the old girls away for winter!

Anyone looking for overnight accommodation please let me know as we and some other locals can put a few people up.

Anyone interested in joining us for this end of season run please assemble at the service area at M4 Junction 33, (not 35 as previously indicated) ready to depart at 10.30 on Saturday 19th October. Meet up at the furthest car park by the Travelodge.

There are already a couple of Tigers signed up, if you're interested pleas PM me by Sunday 13th Oct, so that I can arrange coffee/lunch stops. Ideally we need 3-4 cars to make it worthwhile but the more the merrier.

Trio of Tigers in Tiger Bay

Post by pushrod » Sun Oct 20, 2013 7:16 pm

The brave trio of Tigers journeyed to Tiger Bay yesterday, despite forecasts of heavy rain showers.

From the M4 service area on junction 33 we travelled along the link road down to Cardiff Bay, (formerly known as "Tiger Bay" the name given to the old docks area of Cardiff), now rejuvenated by a massive development over the last 15 years. Here we stopped for a while to take in the views around the bay side and had a quick coffee at the old Norwegian Church.

From the bay we journey east along the Vale of Glamorgan coastline where we stopped for lunch at a fine old pub in Monknash. At this point the heavens opened, we were by now safely seated in front of a roaring log fire enjoying an excellent meal.

After lunch we were greeted by sunshine and blue skies for the second part of the trip over the Bwlch mountain road, then back to the M4 where we said our goodbyes.

All in all a good day out and a possible tester for another run early next year.

Thanks to Richard, Rosemary, Stuart and Cate for taking a chance on the weather.

Lou Lusardi & Val Jones.
