EBay Sunbeam Tiger

I have been asked about a listing of a Tiger on eBay claiming to be the shell of "Works Tiger Number 3" and also about a reference in it to "the Sunbeam Tiger Owners Club will back this up".

To my knowledge, the vendor has not approached the Club to obtain our approval to say what he has and as the listing seems to have no means of contacting the seller I feel bound to point this out on the Forum.

I believe I know the chassis number of the car in the listing and if the vendor wishes to provide me with proof of his claim I shall be happy to briefly describe its known history here!!

I see there is an 'update' on the listing today... interesting....

..."On 05-Sep-12 at 05:17:22 BST, seller added the following information:

FORGOT TO MENTION THIS IS A LEFT HAND DRIVE

ITS ON A OLD B REG SO ITS 1960SOMTHING

AND NOW I HAVE INFO ALL ABOUT THE PROVINCE OF IT ABOUT IT BEING A WORKS NUMBER 3 CAR WHICH WILL GO WITH THE SHELL"...

I saw that and thought it seems a bit strange.

I am hearing all that is being offered is a prepped shell. No registration document - old or current - and no chassis or body number plates on the shell.

I dont want to say too much as I dont know the facts but why would you sell the shell and then all the bits separately? Surely its worth more complete if its a Tiger.

Not if the shell buyer wants all the original bits and matching numbers etc.

The shell buyer then has to win the other auctions regardless of how obscene the bids get.
He has said you can buy them at an agreed price but that would be after the shell auction has ended and you have to pay what he thinks they are worth. Skys the limit really.

I'm not savvy on all this so how can you sell a car without it's V5?

Paul. Your ex is all that can correlate with "Number3"

Assuming it is, what do you make of all this? PM me if you'd rather.

Graham,

I shall PM but i will also write a big WARNING on this one......

Have just spoken with the ebay vendor and here is the response,

No chassis plaque present (But you can get them made for £25 online mate)
No Jal number either? (Whats a Jal number?)
No engine box or propshaft too
No screen, no trim etc etc

Also he doesn't know the reg as he has no V5 document to back up his claims.

But he says to have a letter from the STOC varifying it's provenence?

If it is the same car i brought back from Germany in 97 there isn't much left to varify that now?

Oh and BTW the reserve for the SHELL is only a mere £15,500

He told me it's worth double that?? :|

That is my point, too many ifs but who would bid really high on all the bits. Bids are up to £4550.00 now. Could be people with rusted out Tigers that dont want the bits but a swap of shell.

Simon,

That's assuming the those are genuine bids of course?

I have emailed the individual who bought the car from me who has lived abroad for some years to clarify the status of "The Car" now? as last time he called me it was to say that the "Restorer" had it ready for paint. That must be some 2 years ago now.

The sorry tale is that IF i had of kept the car it would have been finished many years ago, on occasion i had tried to buy it back but greed got it the way i'm affraid so i didnt proceed on principal.

If it is indeed my ex car all that remains of it is an unidentifiable shell without the goodie bits that came with it.

Very sad state of affairs.....
