Tiger on ebay-Auction ends 29th May

Post by V8 burble » Wed May 23, 2012 8:26 am

Just in case the earlier thread title, “Tiger for Auction 10th March 2012” does not seem relevant in May 2012 and may be overlooked, I have started a new thread.
Wonder if that was a trade sale & the car will re-appear for sale again in a week or two?
This car (ex-Robin Howard) was sold at auction in March 2012 for £18,000.

The seller is looking for £25,995.

Good luck to him. There are better cars than that at that price for sale. Id put it 18-20K.

I don't think so... Just too much uncertainty in the markets and people holding on to their money.

Less demand more supply = less value

The other track car has just had its price dropped from £30 to £27.5K. Seems theres a ceiling on really good cars of £25K. Above that and it needs to be a bit special or concours. £42K for the black one-dream on.

I think theres been a rush on Tigers and prices have levelled out. I think theres more to gain against the likes of big healeys but it will take time

I think that the ever increasing cost of petrol is beginning to have an effect. If you drive your Tiger as nature intended you will get through about £1000 worth of fuel over 2500 miles or so.
A couple of friends own TVRs and have reluctantly decided to part with them because of fuel prices. They are finding it hard to sell their cars at anything like a reasonable price.

Good point Julian. I guess theres a few owners that just rev em up in the garage now, instead of taking them for a drive.

At least Tiger owners have the luxury of swapping out the V8 for something more eco. Shouldnt really say that or SAOC will end up with a Tigine thread

The Tiger market remains strong (and in my view it should be shoulder to shoulder with the Big Healey). As to prices, we have seen GBP 37K paid last week for for a 'Classifieds' page MKI, and GBP38K incl buyers prem paid at Brooklands Historics for a rally prepped MKI a couple of days ago. yet there are still some keenly priced examples on the website.

Dealers buying out of auctions forget the Tiger market is very small and tracked by the club and members. Paying £19k at auction for a regukar example, sticking on £4/5K and hoping to snatch £24/5K from eBay won't wash readily nowadays.

As for fuel consumption/price. 90% of our members don't exceed 1000 m each year and the fun factor surely covers pump prices? Or am I wrong??

Tiger running costs:

Restoring bodywork and rebuilding engine...............Huge

Replacement parts and regular maintenance............High

Fuel........................................................................ High

Smile on face when driving Tiger..............................Priceless!

If you know of one, I'd love to hear about it! :)

In terms of this Tiger, has anyone viewed it recently? What is the condition of it? And any other relevant information...

Keep looking, every day, they do turn up but you need to be quick. The STOC classifieds is good but I think a lot of Tigers are sold through word of mouth. I expect prices to climb a bit higher after Goodwood Revival

....indeed, never thought of that - yet looking back bought both my Tigers 'outside' of the usual classifieds
