"Is it a mixed opinion over in the US like here?"

No. The only people who object to finding out the truth on the origins of a Tiger are the ones who are commiting a fraud. It all comes down to money. You take an Alpine, add Tiger trim and a Ford v8, Voila!!!. You've made yourself some serious money.

And what are people's feelings about reshells in general over there?
Necessary evil or shouldn't be allowed?

Paul,

I'm with Graham, what is this stigma with you and the TAC? Talk of the dreaded TAC, TAC through the back door and alienation... You're entitled to your opinion, but give it a rest. No one is forcing you to have a TAC on your car. It has its place for those that want it.

Robin,

The problem i have with the U S lead TAC is it's total lack of flexibility.

It will recognise two halves welded together of which the rear is 100% Alpine, but it wont recognise a Reshell carried out with Jenson identifiers and declared.

Why do we need that in the UK when it causes so much devision? We dont.

Instead of a reshell poll lets have a "Do we want "TAC at all in the UK "and let the UK membership only decide on that one

I know how i'd vote.

From what I have read, they were assembled in SA from kits. If the kits came from Jensens I don't know. But Rootes group would have commisioned it.

Dear fellow posters. We are getting personal again and so the last day's posts have been censored. Please note this thread is a Poll.
There is already a 'Re-shelling' topic; that's the place for continuing the 'discussion'!

I'm trying to decide whether I will vote or not...

My definition of 'b' ..."b) Yes, using an Alpine shell is acceptable but must be openly declared so."... would have to be retaining the Alpine VIN as changing that VIN to a Tiger one could only serve one purpose...if not with the present owner, surely sometime in the future !!! How could you say you were 'openly' declaring it otherwise???

Is it worth having a summary of the for/against reshell debate which can be updated. This Poll thread has some interesting thoughts, like H sunny 65 but nearly all have either been discussed or should be in the reshell thread.

I get the feeling people are understandably not fully reading the reshell debate and starting up all over again.

This is just same ol, same ol....

There are still people on here that cant quite still grasp the phrase " DECLARED"

A reshelled Tiger "DELARED" as a reshell ( With an Alpine body)

No one would be tying to fool or con anyone.

Yes Dude quite clearly the Tger shell did go down a different build route to the Alpine but the Tiger shell came directly from the Alpine, dont fool yourself there fella so as Tiger shell's are not falling from the sky what else are we or anyone to do? Reshell a Tiger from an Austin Cambridge?

Anyway, this will be my last post on this subject for sure.....so you can all go ahead and assansinate me without fear of a return post coz frankly i have never heard so much unnessesary sillyiness in my life.

Crack on.....

Well RRT you may just be right on all our behalves about signing off. We may all have to on this Poll as it has been read over a 1000 times and received a princely 16 votes.

Unless I am told not to the Poll might as well be taken down this weekend.

Red,

I wasn't planning on commenting any more on the subject but since you asked me a direct question I will answer.

In no way am I fooling myself in anything to do with a Sunbeam Alpine or Tiger. I just look at the facts and make my decision and opinions based on those facts.

What is with this obession of "reshelling" or "saving a VIN plate"? If a car is too rusted or wrecked to restore, then so be it. Gone is gone. For example, you certainly can't save a destroyed 1960's Shelby Mustang by riveting it's Shelby VIN plate to a 1960's Mustang body/shell and claim this is the original car. If you don't believe me give it a try and take it to auction. The market just doesn't work that way.

I like C buy have to say, Alpine body panels are the only way to save a damaged car and all changes should be disclosed.
A lot of cars were registered in BON some odd 20 years ago, what has happened to them since then should always be the question.

If you do the math on it buying a nice SIV or SV car at today prices, then getting the Tiger parts doing the conversion, repainting etc, one quickly reaches the point of diminishing returns. If you calculate the fact that even the Tiger that got stuffed into the wall at Willow Springs raceway is known by several owners groups that vin is tarred within the Tiger groups.
If any of you have not seen seen the pics, a grown man crying should come to mind.

I have seen a couple original silk screened blank vin tags on e bay in my short exp. as a Sunbeam owner. I have also had some of the oldest members of groups tell me they are hoarding in their private reserve original unused rivets that they scooped up back in the day. There was also one of the best basket cases I have seen and being a fan of small motorcycle basket cases and VW's , this one was a MK2 with everything detached offered on a Tiger forum.

When discussing TAC'ed cars it would be a good idea to look at it like a appraisal on your home, an estimate of condition and potential value at a specific point in time. Reading the language on the certificate would help everyone a party to the car on its lineage.

A good sample would be in the "rebuild sheet" or cars history. 100% Tiger components and/or which ones match the original build data for the car. Changed panels, if casual inspection cannot reveal. Chain of ownership is a great help.

Maybe some of you all saw the cars auctioned in Indy at Mecum with a really pretty machine engraved vin tag that went for a fair chunk of change. One can only hope that the original tag is with the new owner as well.

Groups like this one helped me in my purchase I pretty much knew what I was getting a TAC'able car, it was stressful but easier than I thought.
No secret handshake to become a member, just a unibody that came from down the Tiger line.

Maybe this should have gone to the reshell hell thread feel free to move it.
