A nice piece of Christmas cheer from Down Under.

The Sunbeam Club of Victoria has been asked to put together 28 Tigers and S1 Alpines for the 2012 driver parade at the AGP on 18th March in Melbourne.

Our Club member down there adds "Get up early for the live telecast and warm yourself up with some of our sunshine"

Hi Graham,

I'm really looking forward to this event. In all the years Melbourne has run it, this will be my first F1 experience up close and what an experience it will be.

Robin. STOC's turn to be envious of you fellows attending the AGP and maybe driving an F1 favourite in the driver parade in your Tiger!!

The last time that happened was at the Riverside track in 1965 (?)
- Jim Clark, Graham Hill and Bruce Mclaren in Ian Garrad's Tigers


Can't find the pic of Graham Hill right now.

Incidentally, the late John Dandy, our Chairman a few years ago was driving Jim Clark!!

Robin, you jammy ******* (insert whatever word you feel is appropriate).

I would give my left one to get the chance to drive Schumy, Lewis, Seb or Fernando.
There could be a scrap over car colours though, silver and red Tigers being the ones in demand.

To get the chance to drive Jimmy Clarke is what dreams are made of.
Actually, I think I'd let the king of drift drive me instead. What a ride that would be.

Would definitely be great to drive one of the top driver's, but anyone will do (at that level all of them are bloody good drivers). Having Mark would be awesome though and a real honour.

Where did you get those pics? I have only ever seen the ones in the various books whic dont really show the whole cars.. great shots.

The late Michael Cooper the F1 photographer - friend and STOC man - and close mate of Jim Clark, once said that Jim knew how to put the wind up him track side......!! Drifting at Oulton Park a year later.



Here's another piece of Mike's work (my favourite) albeit of a Cobra circa 1964 but for the life of me I know not where. Can anyone help with that?



Michael, I believe the original source of the Riverside photos was Ian Garrad. The 3 Tigers came from his showroom and Jim is sitting in his personal transport. A great publicity move me thinks.

Thanks for that. Interesting that Ian seems to have removed the POWERED BY FORD 260 sheilds on the car and replaced it with the falcon 260 V8 badges from USA fords! IIRC the same badge appeared on the miles prototype car when it did some PR shots

Yes, Ian Garrad enjoyed adding distinctive badges to his cars, starting with as Michael points out the 'Miles prototype'. You can see the Falcon 260 badge in this pic along with the alluring Valerie Samuels


I can't show Robin (right now) what the badge on the bonnet is but here it is, in this poor blow up, on the side of one of Ian's Tigers. It also did a turn as a steering wheel boss cap.


STOC reproduced these for several years. We may even have a few in our Regalia stock still.

I think ian used that round LAT logo on a few things.. if you remember the playboy tiger (dont we all? ) it had one of those logos mounted on the bonnet in what looked like a S3 Alpine/rapier fastback bonnet badge base, the same logo appreared in the LAT brochure on the LAT bonnet.
