Why do you have a problem with telling the truth on whether or not a Tiger was rebodied? Is it because your car may loose value if you let the cat out of the bag that what you have is a rebodied Tiger?

The bottom line is anyone is allowed to build or rebody any car they own. Where problems arise is when the owner sells the re-bodied Tiger without full disclosure on what was done to the car. The only reason they would not disclose this important fact is the car has less value.

To make the claim that a good body man can make a reconstituted Tiger that will pass TAC may be true. However, has one ever passed TAC? Where is the proof?

dude,
i think you may have seen my current alpine project so why mention anything to me about hiding the value! the value is not something that is a concern of ours since we collect the cars with no intention of ever selling them. the wife and i take great pride in our cars and consider them to be toys for us to enjoy. not value added.

It would be interesting to have a poll vote on the topic.

Reshelling

Just a mute point on the TAC system. I am one of the 10 people in the UK who have their car "TACED" by Norman Miller. Now, Norman has neither been in the UK to inspect my car, nor have I been the USA. So where do we stand here?

That is interesting Rob. So tell us how it was TACed? Does Norman know the car?

Hi Mal,

While this doesn't directly impact on where we live(not at this stage anyway), it is non the less interesting. Even if the DVLA pass through the proposal as spoken about earlier, I think this will still be an issue (just not a legal one). I guess the only outcome would be to introduce their own TAC system and run as they see fit. Everyone knows my views, but new proposal or not it will always raise issues in my opinion.

Regards, Robin.

Yes , Norman does know the car , as does the club. No bent MoTs here Gary. If buyers took the time to investigate the car they are buying there would be no need for a TAC system.

I agree if the questions are more than TAC yes or no, As has been expressed by the minority 'Tiger or nothing' , if they are an owner of a Tiger they are more likely to vote yes, especially if they have no real tacit knowledge of the car. Also I dont think non registered readers can vote so the vote would be scewed.

For me the TAC should be for the prospective buyers but as Graham spells out, the buyers dont always do their homework until they buy a car and its too late. This negates the reason for having it, although its challenging and for some, fun to find the alger.

Currently I dont see the point especially as the law may soon change and a reshell will become legally a bonifide Tiger. This is the reason I say a need to define what a 'R' means before its too late. We have to look forward to a system that has flexibility that 'we' can define instead of the 'its a Tiger or nothing, broken record' approach.

NB: If you think I am for reshells being considered as a 100% Tiger or you think a definitive descrpition of the difference has been made please read back through all the posts and you will find I have said nothing of the sort and nobody has offered details of the difference. And, if you can repeatedly only say a converted Alpine is not a Tiger please excuse me for not replying. Im sure your a very nice person but I have just about enough of my 4&5 year olds each day to carry on discussions like that after they have gone to bed.

I do have to say though Robin, I agree with you this time.

Last time I checked there were eleven UK Tigers carrying
"TAC" stickers. While I'm not certain who "tigerman7347" is
for sure, none of the verified machines belongs to anyone
named Rob. I suppose it's possible one of my "VBD" certificates
is being confused with something from the TAC program.

That's easy to say ,but as someone who has bought a Tiger in the last year, I can tell you that the information required to 'investigate the car' is extremely hard, if not nigh on impossible to get hold of.

I can go on the internet to get the credentials of a genuine Mini Cooper or Mk1 Escort Mexico, not so with a Tiger. As a new comer to the Tiger scene it is extremely frustrating! A simple certificate from a recognised body would dispel all the doubts.

Well fancy that  You going soft? Don't think I am going to change my mind any time soon. The DVLA proposal I find to be very general and doesn't cover the the differences between the two models. We'll just have to wait and see there. The TAC shouldn't be just for prospective buyers, that is where all the clubs need to help out new buyers. It is also there for a bit of peace of mind for the owner.

Hi Norman,

Do you still offer the VBD certificates and if so, how do you acquire one?

Thanks, Robin.
