Martin

It is B9473140 HRO FE - ex-UK reg ORX 905C. This is a Tiger fitted with a late D Type Harrington top and stuck on SIII Alpine rear wing tops!

The author of this modified Tiger had other variations on a theme of 'what if Harringtons' but under this creation is a correct Jensen manufactured Tiger. Around 2006 it became the pride and joy of Club member Lukas Waldis who took the Tiger to Switzerland shortly before his premature death. The advert you have come across is the first time, to my knowledge' it has re-appeared since then. Others may differ about that.

But yes, a nice machine. Personally, the added fins don't do anything for me but I feel the Harrington top would have have been a great offering during the production period...had it been.

It is a pity the vendor(s) don't understand / make this clear in their pitch.

Oh, I see.
The advert heading had me very confused.

I can understand it having the different wings as it would seem to be a completely personalised Tiger and I suppose these were the preferred wings of it's creator.
Lisa was a bit disappointed when she saw the wings on ours as she likes the longer ones.

The rear vent on the roof is an interesting detail. I wonder what it does?
Smoke screen deployer or oil slick perhaps?

Was this car created by PM?

I think it was last sold for about £17000, be interesting to see what the price is now. Looks like the other Tiger they have for sale is another one of Lucas's. Whats happened to his other 2?

Bob. The Tiger is still in Switzerland and is listed at SFR 50,000 or £41,000 in our money plus of course import duty + V.A.T.

I'll let the Swiss Tiger Club answer where Lukas's other Tigers got to. BTW it's an Alpine in the listing. Lukas also owned one, a Geneva Auto Show car!!

Lukas bought this car for 17k quid in from UK but somebody wanted to make big money after his death. After a lot of pro & cons it was sold in an auction to Geneva area for 22k Euros. Appearantly somebody - after owning it for a few years- wants to turn it into gold now. Forget it - to much money for car which never was intended that way...

So if I take the top off this one & add it to mine, can I ask £40,000 for my Tiger? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sunbeam-Alpin ... 3a6d073ab0

A buddy of mine a Honda R and D guy commented that all cars get vents so that when you slam the doors or rear decklid it does not box your ears as badly. If you look closely you can find them on modern beasts as well. Everyone was puffing a cigarette back then possibly a way to let the smoke out without letting the rain in. Warren G.

I'd say the rear vent came in on the D type harrington tops as a ventilation system, The early "harrigton alpines" as in SII based with fins had opening rear sinows for venting.. the Harrington Lemans started with opening rear windows and a series of ventilation "gills" in the rear C pillar.. these were later deleted for one reason or another.. then when they went top the D type tops they had the rear vents.. i'd say to reinstate the ability to ventilate and eqalise pressure (not that the cars are very air tight) .. i personally think it ruins the line.. what does amaze me is how close it looks in profile to a LAT bonnet scoop... then again.. most scoops look somewhat similar.

The bit i dont get on this car.. why they advertise it as a MKII Tiger.. and even say 1965....

Because 90% of prospective buyers would not know any different. PS. have spent the last few hours exposing the boot floor from underneath. All good, every seam.weld shown in dark red primer. :D

michael,
the harringtons are really quite tight and waterproof if you use the right seals around the top of the door windows, set the doors right and use the proper door weatherstrip. it's all in the details. so many folks seem to install the door weather strip backwards.
